Well, I am in the process of installing the BMR EXTREME TA and I have the same problem. The mounting plates that slide over the TA mount on the rear end are too wide by about 3/8". I had to weld 2 plates on either side of my rear end TA mounting plate. Otherwise there would have been slop and all the torque would have been on the bolts. NO WAY to use the stock bolts. I also had to purchace (2) 1/2" X 13 thread (coarse) X 8" long bolts with new flat and lock washers and nuts. I wanted to have the job finished yesterday but trying to find the new bolts on a Saturday was challenging to say the least but I found them. I hope to finish the install tomorrow evening.

What model TA do you have? What Sub frame connecters do you have?

Default problem with bmr adj. torque arm!!

my factory bolts seem to be too short for the new torque arm on the rear end mount. there isn't hardly enough thread to get a good lock on the bolt. it seems to need to be about another 1/2" longer.

anybody else have this problem? they say to use the factory bolts

I just got off the phone with BMR. They are sending me 9/16" mounting hardware free of charge. Over night too. Don't use the 1/2" posted above. That was my concern that the 1/2" did not have enough diameter.
Check for slop in the mounting plate. It should fit snug.
Good luck

yeah we finally left it alone to get some sleep at around 4 am, LOL!! and tried to find something to work on Sun...not gonna happen! we ended up putting in the same as you just to get it to stay bolted up. i have some 9/16" 8" on the way to make them work as well. i have the adj. bmr torque arm and have DMS tubular subframes.

btw do you have any good tips on setting the angle?

I got my Adjustable Torque Arm 2yr's ago and ran into the same problem with the stock bolts seeming too short. When I called Rockey personally HE said that was OK and I have ran the stock bolts since. Only prob I had was after I lowered it the bolts were hitting the tunnel and so I turned them around.

As for the pinion angle they sent me an Angle Finder and the directions they sent (or you can get them on there website) showed me how to get it.

I have the same problem. I've called BMR a couple of times and they are aware of it. I told them they should include longer bolts with the torque arm. They said they were trying to find a supplier for longer bolts but hadn't found one so far. The bolt only goes about halfway into the nut. I would hate for the nut to pop off on a hard launch because the bolt is too short to engage the nut all the way. BMR should get off their @ss and get longer bolts to those that need them. A couple of friends have the same problem so its not an isolated thing.

Bruce

That is not the way I understand it.

The guage supplied by BMR does not have the minus or plus on it for a reason. The minus side will depend on which side of the car you take your measurements from.

OK, Lets say the drivers side is where you take the measurements. The angle finder is on the drive shaft and the drive shaft is "naturally" angled down to the rear. The angle finder reads 6 on the left side of zero on the angle finder which would be a minus -6.

If you measured from the passinger side the 6 would be on the right side of zero on the angle finder. This would also be a minus -6 . Get it??

Now, you put the angle finder on the rear end torgue arm mount and lets say that reads ( from the drivers side) 2 on the right side of zero. This will be a plus + 2. This adds up to a total of 8. Then divide by 2 and your pinion angle is minus -4. This is the way I understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

BTW, BMR was very helpful with my questions. They also sent me the longer bolts overnight like they said they would. I would do business with those guys anytime.

Good luck

I'm assuming that he knew if the angle gauge was showing the driveshaft or the rear were pointing down or up. Your math is correct -6 on the drive shaft and + 2 on the axle = -4 total pinion angle. My math is correct too. If your -2 on the driveshaft and -2 on the rear, your pinion angle is -4. Wish I had the same luck as you getting longer bolts from BMR. I think their stuff is great and would buy from them again too. Guess I'll have to call them again and see if I can get them to send me some bolts.

I thought it was supposed to be a measurement of the working angle, which is the difference between the pinion and the driveshaft angles, so if one is -2 and the other is -4 the working angle is 2 degrees.

The degree measuring device is like "clock time" where the difference between 2 minutes before the hour and 4 minutes before the hour is 2 minutes. The difference is what matters to the working angle, rather than whether the car is parked pointing up or down your driveway.

HOWEVER, the pinion is supposed to be pointed down more than the driveshaft by at least 1 or 2 degrees, so when the pinion rotates up on acceleration the working angle stays below a zero angle. Ultimately it must depend on how stiff the springs, shocks and bushings are, and how much torque is developed at a standing start, to guess at how many maximum degrees of upwards pinion rotation is possible.

To look at the other extreme limit, if the working angle is over 6 degrees the driveshaft is noisy.

I have a lightly modified 1LE with 275mm street tires and use 1 1/2 degrees for the static working angle and it seems fine. If you have stickier tires, a softer rear suspension, numerically higher rear gearing, or more torque I think you need more working angle to keep the pinion on the same amoount of ultimate working angle. Maybe 3-4 degrees, tops.
