Default important tire width question.....

what's the main difference in acquiring some 17x11 over some 17x9.5....for the back?....will I get way better traction or will the difference won't be noticeable?......I'm still debating over getting an all 17x9.5 setup on all four tires but want to consider the 17x11 for the back if they will help my overall handling and traction at takeoffs or so forth.......post your opinion please..........
thanx!!!............P.S. the price from 17x9.5 to 17x11 is not alot.....so i was considering on some........will they rub ?......I will put them on a Z convertible.....?............how big of a tire could I go with?....275..295...315?..

the 17x11's might rub on a convertible.

I'm not sure about the difference between 17x9.5 and 17x11 (though everyone that I know that has gone to 17x11, has never regretted it) The traction difference was night and day between bald 315/35-17 Kuhmo Victoracers and 245/50-16 GSCs.

315/35 is the size to go with on the 17x11.

FWIW. I put 315/35 Nitto Drag Radials on the back of my car, the traction on the street is awesome. Handling is also great with them. Not to mention they look damn good.

I just got 17x11 wheels and some Nitto drag radials in 315/35. I didn't think the differance would be THAT noticable but man, was I wrong! The traction is MUCH better straight line and on turns. All the places my tires used to bark are now quiet. I can FEEL it just jump when I give it gas. The only downside is I feel a lot more bumps on the road with the wider tire. It also looks VERY cool!

more rubber = more traction......

If you can fit the tire (most people can...it just may take some fender rolling and spacers) GET IT!

The only reason I have 295s and not 335s is because my rim is a 10.5" so the tire won't fit . Besides....fat tires look COOL!!!

I don't know about the 335's but the 315's will work on the 10.5 rim and they look awsome. They actually look better than they do on the 11" rims.

Then I started digging around.

Is a 315 the widest I can put on a 10.5" rim? What about the 335s?

What can I put on the 9.5" fronts? I have 265s.

thanks

Chris

I think he was thinking of 17s. I've not seen any 315s in a 18 inch rim size. I think that the lower you go in aspect ratio-the closer the tire section width has to be to the rim width. So I wouldn't think 335s would work worth a hoot on a 18X10.5 rim.
I had a set 335s on some 17X10.5s and they had some rather crappy handling traits. Didn't stick well in a straight line either.
Kumho has some new 335s that have a min. wheel width of 11 inches. These might work with the 11s. I'm running 17X10.5s on the rear with Yoko 032Rs and they are the min. width the manufacturer recommends. They are on the small side for a 315 and that might be the reason the work OK. The 17X9.5s could take a max of a 285 width tire.

I've got 17" 9.5 Konigs with 285 BF Goodrich GForce T/A KDWS all the way around. They look nice and the handling is very good. They dont really squeel either, they are quiet when you really get on it. They handle very well in most weather conditions

Do you have any rubbing issues with the 17x9.5 with the 285's?? I have 18x9.5 ZO6 wheels with 265/35 KDWS and would like something wider but I need to know if they will rub I was thinking 275/40zr18's or 285/35zr18's
