Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
Do the Z06 calipers have more pistons than the C5 or F-body calipers? Just trying to make a decision on what braking upgrade will fit my needs & want more info on Z06 calipers. I'm considering the LG kit but for $900...a few more hundred might by an even better kit....so begins the research.

So they aren't 4 piston calipers. I heard that they were but I guess I was misinformed. That's why I wanted to research it before I start spending money.

Yes, I've read that here, but if that is the only substantial difference, I may just save up for some calipers with more stopping force. Maybe I'll see what all is required to run the Porche calipers I read that someone has on a Fbody. I know Porche uses some bad *** brakes.

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
I did the Gstop route and used the z06 calipers,
I got em from gmpartsdirect.com (i bought used gstop brackets, and pieced the rest together).
I thought the difference in casting was that the fbody was the one that was "gravity cast", and the c5/z06 was "pressure cast"? I may be wrong, but remember reading it that way.
Also, the z06 calipers were like the same amount as the c5 calipers, but gmpartsdirect WILL RAPE YOU on shipping.
The porcshe kit is absolutely awesome, i would have gone that route if i could have spared the money, its sold through Movit and the cheaper but essentially same kit is also sold through Prospeed Motorsports, rumor has it they wont be selling them much longer (which I am not kicking myself for not making the stretch to get them instead).
hope that helps..

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
They won't be selling the Porche setup anymore or that particular retailer won't be selling them? Now that I'm looking at the costs, I should get my heads before I get the brakes, lol. I mean after all, I'll need a brake upgrade after the heads It's funny how we can justify more mods after just getting mods

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
Shoe has it ... F-Body caliper is gravity cast and the C5 caliper is pressure cast.
The C5 caliper also has ribs running around it's body which yields a lot of added strength. An F-Body caliper is more prone to "spread". Instead of looking like this ...
|| they take on this shape /\ and taper the brake pads ...
2 piston is a lot of clamping force and the 13" C5 conversion is HUGE bang for the buck upgrade in braking.

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
So a search in this forum there are some posts that describe it. In short, you buy some custom brackets that some of the speed shops are having built along with the C5 or Z06 calipers & bolt em up.

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
Don't quote these dememnsions, but I believe a conversion will take you from an 11.8" rotor to a 12.9" rotor.
It requires a 17" rim and I believe all stock GM 17" rims for an F-Body will fit just fine.

Re: Z06 caliper, how many pistons?
The C5 calipers are pressure cast. I bought mine from Team Chevrolet for $72 /ea shipped. I have the whole conversion (rotors, calipers, abutment brackets, and hoses). I've had them for abou 7 months, but just got the wheels. Should be a big improvement over my LT1's.
