Default PSI for 245/50/16 nittos.....

Who has run 245-50-16 Nitto NT-555R's for at least 10,000 street miles and what pressure did you run them at? I, for now, have mine that I just got at 22-23 pounds cold which is about 26-27 hot. I am looking for the pressure that is most likely to give the most even wear patterns, not the best traction as they have enough of that anyway.
I managed to go through my BFG g-force TA's that were on the back in about 2,500 miles two years ia a row and am going to avoid doing that to my Nittos

Okay....maybe this was too specific to get anybody to respond just yet. Who has run Nitto's on the street and how many miles did you get at what pressure? And what pressure do you beleive to be good in order to not wear out the middle too fast or go too low and wear the sides, ect.?

Aside for using the owners manual as a gauge you can read your burn out marks. From a stand still punch the gas and spin the wheels a little. Becareful not to excessively spinn the tires or it will cause them to ballon. Get out and look at the marks. You want the tires to leave a nice even mark on the ground. If the outter edge is darker that the middle the tire is more than likely under inflated and cupping. If the tire is over inflated the center will be dark and the sides will be very light. Hope this helps.

I havent had them on long enough to wear them out but they appear to be wearing evenly at 20psi cold. No problem with sway. I tried doing a powerslide for the hell of it and they didnt spin. Ended up pushing the frontend real bad with understeer. Feels perfectly safe.

I guess I will have to break down and spin them, then look at the marks. I was hoping to not have it come to that but I guess that I will, I read that a couple times after searching too. It's just that I am paranoid about losing the tread on them after what I did to my last few pairs of tires and am already planning two trips to the track where they will see some wear. I really want to try and make them last for 10,000 miles, after going 13,000 miles on the last THREE PAIRS of rear tires combined

Also, does anybody know where I could buy a tool to measure the tread depth? I tried the local Autozone but they didn't have any.

I got 13,000 miles out of my USED pair that were the same size as yours. I ran 18-19 psi in them all the time. The centers still wore a little more than the outside edges at that pressure but I got a hell of alot of miles out of them.

gauges although I can't remember where I saw
'em. You could go the ole-fashioned route and
get one of those little stainless rulers that
come with the slide clip, these are often to
be found in places like Home Depot and Ace
Hardware. A cheapo set of calipers (machine
work, not brakes) usually has a depth rod that
could work too.

ok easy answer, I tun my nittos at 22 psi cold and they wear nice and even without getting the sidewall too hot. As for the tire depth, nitto's come at 5/32" so uh... just use your eye... the wear marker is at 3/32" so when it gets past that you can really hammer on it

Thanks for the help, I am going to leave mine in the lower 20-22 range cold and keep an eye on the treadware, and drop it down to 18-20 at the track.
