Default GM driveshaft recall?

hey people
i have a 98 Z28 that is clearly NOT an 1LE (checked the RPO codes)
i bought my car used, bone stock with low mileage
it was previouly a one owner car, driven by a 50-something year old lady
anyways, i looked under my car recently and for the 1st time i noticed it had an aluminum driveshaft
i asked a buddy of mine about it and he said GM did a recall on quite a few driveshafts, because they were out of balance, and a few got the 1LE DS's in that recall

so im basically just wondering if any of you ever even heard of this?

I believe all M6 Camaros came with the aluminum driveshaft.

Seems like I remember reading of a recall for the A4's. Drive train/Drive shaft Tink. One would hear a tink sound when shifting into drive.

all M6's got aluminum driveshafts. (LS1 for sure)

Some of the A4 cars (not recall, but a TSB) got aluminum when customers complained of the tink when putting into gear.

I thought the 2.73 geared autos got steel driveshafts and the 3.23 geared autos got aluminum as well as the 3.42 geared m6 cars....I won't swear to it, but I think that was the way it worked....

I think trackbird is right about the 2.73 autos getting a steel drive drive shaft.

i'll be damned
i learn something new everyday
i had no idea M6's came with em, thought only 1LE's had them
i guess the alum. DS was 1LE specific only prior to the LS1 years

Actually, a friend had a 1992 Z-28 305TPI with aluminum rear drums and a 5 speed that had an aluminum driveshaft in it as well....and it was NOT a 1LE car. Only set of aluminum drums I ever saw (factory part #'s on them). So, I'm not sure wht the exceptions were and for what years....

It was a strange car and an anniversary car as well (not the full graphics package...just the badges, etc). It was loaded (except leather). With the aluminum drums, you didn't have to use the factory rear wheel spacers (1/8th inch I think). It was an oddball....only ever seen that one.
