Okay,
what shocks will you be installing? If you are using shocks that wil require the reuse of the stock lower perch and upper perch, then yes. AFA removing the lower perch, it may require some finesse to remove it, but of course you need to first remove the springs (safely).

And the top perches tend to rust to the shaft of the shock. In many cases they WILL come loose with a BFH, but replacement is indicated if rust requires too much hammering. Also, FWIW, Van Devere Oldsmobile (Google it, go to parts, CALL Dal do not order online) is about the only place that STOCKS the top mounts. Factory top mounts fit the Bilstein shocks, KYBs do not, according to Sam Strano Parts.

Ahh, I don't recall saying that. KYB's, Monroe, GM are all engineered to fit OEM shocks, and all shocks for the car have to fit where OEM parts do. KYB's will fit as well as anything else. The few times I needed them, I found it cheaper and quicker to get Monroe replacements than KYB or GM.

i am sure i can replace the shocks myself , but i was wondering about the lower perch . i am going with the blisteins (replacement) and do they come with a lower perch or do i use the exsiting lower perch ? see how confused i am about what appears to be a simple job ? i know i can do this because how many of use here can claim " changing spark plugs on a '" NAVI " lol now that is a fun job ...

If the shocks you buy don't come with a perch, you will have to re-use your stock one. This is a question you should ask from whomever you buy them.
If/When it comes time to remove the perch off the stock shocks (once you have safely removed the spring), you will need to remove the brass end cap at the bottom of the shock body. It is just pressed on, so a few light taps around the edge of it with a hammer and it will come off. Then you simply slide the perch down off the body of the shock.

Sam, that's what Arlyn told me when I ordered the Bilstein HDs...

Hmmm, well that's not quite right. I think she probably mis-understood what you were asking because she knows they fit.

I believe what was stated about KYB upper spring perches were that their quality was substandard to the OE part, but otherwise I myself haven't had the opportunity to equip them on my street vehicle.

Thanks so much "chupr0kabra" you pretty much answered my question about the lower perch . The problem with the Blisteins is that no matter what website/vendor and/or eBaY they never show a lower perch attached to the shock , why is that ? Thanks again

Some manufacturers sell the perches as part of the shock, some don't. My KYB GasAJusts came with the perches welded on (as do some Monroe shocks, from what I've seen). My Koni SA's (purchased from Sam Strano, btw) came with perches, but i'ts my understanding that Bilstein's don't.
Glad that helped.

yes, the lower perches do come off of the OEM shocks.
no, the Bilsteins do not come with lower perches, nor do the fronts come with dust covers. For the fronts, you must reuse the lower spring perch and the upper dust boots.
Again, you can only reuse them on a new pair of shocks, if the new pair of front shocks don't have them already welded on, or with some that already include their own removable/adjustible perches.
