Default Squeeky Rear Springs - Heater Hose mod

Well, a few months after installing the Konis and lowering the rear by using the heater hose mod my spring on the passenger side squeeks / grinds when the axle loads up in reverse and or forward from a dead stop. I think the problem stems from the spring not being isolated from moving around due to there being no isolater cup anymore? Has anyone else notice this? if so what can be done to prevent the noise........grease / oil the lower spring support on the axle is all I can think of?

I'd jack it up and remove the spring to check where it's interfering. It may just be out of place or a different part of the coil is rubbing the spring pocket. If the spring IS rubbing on a different part, I'd slide a little more heater hose down the spring wherever it is rubbing to keep it from having metal on metal contact.

I had it up on a hoist........that was my concern. However, the top coil is completely covered by the hose........it's the lower spring / perch that is making the noise. There is just enough movement under load that it is making a slight creek/crunch noise when the axle loads up. At first I thought the top of the spring had worn through the hose and was rubbing on the car underbody/spring perch location, but it was fine. Just checking if anyone else has ever had this problem. In the spring (when the car is back out) I will grease / oil the lower spring perch and see if it helps.

Hit the upper hose with some rubber safe lube where it contacts the body. But I doubt that's your noise. After all, the spring is still isolated with rubber, just like stock. It's just not as thick.

Not being able to hear the sound, I'd have to say it's more like the brakes given the fact you hear a squealing and/or grinding when moving from a stop or changing directions.

Also check the sway bar bushings, these will groan
in cold weather when they get dry.

Perhaps go find some large rubber (4") washers and
cut them so they slip over the lower perch locator
nub and give the spring a cushion, too.

Sam, I have isolated the sound to where the lower portion of the spring (bottom coil) sits in the lower spring support attached to the axle. In the spring when I get my car back on the road I will give it a shot of lube.........see if that helps. I was curious if anyone else who has done the hose mod has ever had this problem. It's only coming from the passenger side.

thats what I was thinking.......some kind of low profile rubber support for the lower spring coil to sit on?

I second the rear swaybar endlinks. They'll make crazy creaking noises when they get dry or are old. I had it happen to mine. Threw some new factory replacements on and it's quiet.

Try removing the endlinks (or the entire swaybar) and see if the noise goes away. (note: do not drive without a rear swaybar for a long distance, only to test)

My LCA bushings on my SS squeaked. I greased it up and it was noise free after that.
