Default street driving w/out front swaybar?

A poll like this was started in the drag race section. Fifty-something to three for taking it off. Some wondered if the responses would be different in the road racing or suspension/braking section. Only one way to find out:

People who go to the track and don't want to have to remove it every time they go. the closest track to where I live is about 50 miles away. So, I need to have a "streetable" drag car. Enough to get me to and from the track.

Really if you want most of the upside of no front sway you can just unbolt one endlink at the track, if you bring a jack along it's not hard at all.

I've driven mine with out a front sway bar... horrid feeling, safe i'd go as far to say somewhat. I've been in other stock cars that handle worse with more dive, Really its a negtive change in the handling, and when you can just pop a few bolts quickly I see no reason to do so.

The biggest safety issue i'd say in my eyes would be more brake dive, I've not tryed to mash the brakes on my no sway bar test but I didn't like the feeling, I had a thread where i'll do a review of no sway stock and strano 35mm.

I'm going to rip my sway off and try hard braking, it REALLY doesn't feel good.

I vote for keep it on unbolt it when at the track

U can probly look at my sig pic and guess my vote.

Good handling is a safety feature on the street. No way I would do it!!!

I would like to know how much dif it makes on the dragstrip anyway? Any one test this? I wonder the same thing about running skinnies up front..another bad idea for the street that I cannot understand making much difference.

That said...I'm sure there is some diff...I'm admitedly not a drag racer...I just truely wonder how much time it gives you.

I do both and i'll put it this way asking how much a change can skinnies makes is about the same as saying that bar is only 5mm bigger how can that help

Every little thing matters no matter what kind of racing you do

5mm bigger is a huge difference in stiffness, I don't remember the exact # but I think Sam said it was about 60% stiffer.

I know, and if I didn't loathe doing math when not at work i'd get the exact percent for you, I was simply using it as an example.

Sometimes things that don't sound big can make a HUGE change that's all I meant

If you're willing to change your driving style to account for the crappy handling, go for it. I think it's a mod for the go-straight guys only.

unbolting the front swaybar doesn't make any sense. It's still on the front, where you don't need any extra weight.

It's not just the weight

I could go into it somewhat, you could search and learn or someone whos alot better in explaining it could chime in.

I'd be happy to explain why, in semi laymans terms if you'd like.

Basiclly it's twisting force, the bushings and front sway won't do anything sending more to the rear.

Sorry I can't really explain it much better.

So that's why you get a bigger rear swaybar, to handle the extra load.

My question is: does putting more load on the rear make for a straighter launch? Or does putting more of a load on the rear make for better launch(more traction)?

It's 15 pounds off the front end and allows for quicker weight transfer to the rear tires. That extra weight to the tires allows better traction. I think a local guy here dropped nearly .2 off of his 60' from this alone.

I've driven with no front swaybar. It was pretty scary compared to having the front bar installed. The front leans more, which picks up your inside wheel in turns, and causes chaos. If you make sure you don't drive very fast on the street, then you would be ok. But if you ran into a situation where you needed the control to dodge some idiot or a life threatening situation, you would have a harder time without the front swaybar.

My vote would be to just disconnect one endlink when you arrive at the track.

it's 10 pounds. And you want to drag race without it, fine. You'd be a moron to street drive without a front bar. There is a HUGE distance between CAN and SHOULD.
