Air Ride Suspension?
Is there anyone around with a bagged camaro? I'd like to see the setup. I'm ready to lower my car and want to check out all of my options. What do you guys think of having this setup on a Camaro? The whole reason I'm even looking at them is because I've seen some sixties Camaros with them on and it's really convenient to be able to rise the car at a push of a button. Currently on the car is boxed sfcs, stb, adj phb. I know i still need the LCAs. Any input from the suspension gurus would be appreciated!

Koni Shocks D/A = $1200
Strano Springs = $300
So $1500 for that, or you could have an amazing handling setup plus adjustable ride height... and not to mention the uniqueness factor, for ~$500 more.

Except nobody buys Koni D/A's when the S/A's do 100% of what 99% of people will need them for, so you're looking at right around a grand for Konis and Stranos (which I want to say is a GREAT setup). Even then though, I don't think Air Ride is outrageously priced.
I had also considered going Air Ride before I ordered up my Konis. The extra weight and space required by the pump, tank, lines, etc. is what turned me off to it, not to mention the extra money. The ability to not only adjust ride height, but stiffness/firmness as well, is very neat. I LOVE my Koni/Strano setup for both handling and the ride quality, but with air you can optimize for two totally different setups. You can have a nice soft setup for the street, and then a few quick changes, and you're tearing up the road course, or pulling the front wheels at the strip.

more and more i say I won't do it. like anything else i probably will though lol. Like I said its a bit more then I am willing to go, bu hell my car is already a dman money pit might as well just through alittle more down tube huh lol.

Grr. I need to find more specifics. Like if I can fit the tank and compressor where the spare tire is and how it works with my current suspension parts. Also I need to know what the maintenance on these will be. Will they last as long as a normal suspension setup? I don't think so. I hope the LCAs I have in the mail aren't a waste. Thanks for the input so far guys.

ok i've done air-ride on everything from full prostreet cars to just custom trucks yes there is a lil maintinence but only make'n sure nothing is rubbing and ur fine yes the tank and comprissor will add about 10 pounds and all of ur suspention stuff will still work fine just minus the springs obviously. i had baggs on my s-10 for 4 years and put alomst 50 thousand miles on it and only blew one air line and that was my fault cause i left it hang'n down so yes if i had the money my car would be on air no dought. o and new hummers have baggs and many factory cars over the years have air suspention

Slammed1500. He's the only hardcore guy I know here with a full custom setup with wheel tubs front and rear to set it on the ground.

z2fast8 please tell me how you only add 10 lbs to the entire setup when bagging a camaro. I save 3 lbs on each rear part but adding the tank ~20lbs and the compressor ~10 lbs plus valves and fittings.. adds up to a decent amount. I used to have my parts weighed and listed and I might have posted it I'll have to look in my history.

BTW, you can also get aluminum tanks to save weight.

So far I haven't found anyone who has been able to talk about spring rates. I'm guessing that it is progressive. It starts soft and gets firmer the more it's compressed. The flexing of the rubber also helps keep the rates from being too high. Now on the cars that use metal cylinders instead of rubber bags, they are known to ride a bit rough. People sometimes add accumulators which is just another small air chamber connected with a big line right next to the cylinder to give more air capacity. This reduces the spring rate. Conversely, if you reduce air capacity from a rubber bag it will ride more firmly. All this of course is at the same pressure. More pressure equals more spring rate, and less pressure equals less rate. That is why I think the universal strut bags with their reduced air capacity should ride more firmly and feel more sporty.

what size tank did u have that weighd 20 pounds? anyways u can get an aluminum 3 gallon tank and a small viar 380 compressor and if its not right at 10 pounds all together its close and ur loosing ur heavy coil springs at all four cornors
