Need new brake pads. Which ones?




Also, anybody know a good place to order oversized rotors? Im looking for 13" rotors, preferably Brembo or Powerslot slotted rotors.

i have had both and i have to say i like the Hawks way better. they have had VERY little dust and no squeaking.

I don't have any experience with the green stuff pads, but they are pretty good for street applications. For track applications, red stuff pads are better. There is also yellow stuff pads, but I don't know if they make them for our cars.

Hawk pads: HPS pads are good for street application and can handle some pretty spirited driving. HP + (plus) is a more aggressive pad and is better for the track but still quite streetable, but they are very dirty and squeal some. (I drove around for a while on these after my HPDE- mainly cause I was too lazy to take them off
Basically you have to ask yourself what you want to do with the car, and how often you want to clean your wheels
Ceramic pads dust the least BTW

Hawk's are the best

Know a guy who races a porshe( don't know the model, but it's the one with the engine in the front) on the track and he hates the EBC green stuff, they wear out too fast, dust a lot and damaged his rotors slightly. After that he changed to Hawk HP plus and hasn't looked back.

So I would definitely have to recommend the HPS, I'm getting some too

im running HP+ pads too and love 'em! by the time my wheels are shitted up its usually time to wash the car anyways but they do squeak a bit under light braking it seems so just turn up your tunes

I do believe that the EBC pads have been reformulated and perform better now. For street use a set of reds should be sufficient. Pads for road racing is another issue and often comes down to driving style.

Do not run pads that are designed for racing on the street. True racing pads don't work until they get (and keep) heat in them. You will be happier with the Hawk HPS pads as they are much quieter and put off almost no dust.

I've heard good stuff about EBC pads but have never used them. I currently use Hawk HPS pads with 13" Powwerslot rotors.

I have the HP Plus, they don't have to have heat in them to work, obviously they bite harder when warm, but they work just fine cold. Yes they dust alot, I don't have chrome wheels.

May seem odd, since there are many people who use the greenstuff pads, but EBC's website lists them only for a 3.8L Camaro - the SS/Z28 options it only recommends Redstuff or Yellowstuff (it doesn't seperate the Firebird options). I've never tried any EBC pad, but I'm planning on going with Redstuff next time I change pads (currently have HPS, and they're alright, but I'd like more bite and less dust).

Hawk HPS all the way. I ran those on my Z28 and they are awesome pads, esp. for a DD.

I have the EBC GreenStuff pads and have had them for about 30,000 miles (only about 1/2 gone). They are an excellent street pad, but they are NOT a track pad at all. Very low dusting...hardly any at all. No noise, smooth operation, and good grip. I would say these have the same characteristics as the stock pads, but bite harder.

I will be buying EBC when these pads wear out, but I will be trying the RedStuff pads instead since I have upgraded to about 400 rwhp recently. I need a little more stopping power.

You've asked about two completely different kinds of brake pads. A mild street pad vs. a track ready pad. EBC makes pads that are comparable to the HP Plus pads...that is their YellowStuff pads.

If you want a fair comparison, the GreenStuff pads are a mild stock upgrade, the RedStuff pads are comparable to the HPS pads, the YellowStuff pads are comparable to the HP Plus pads.

So to answer your question, I will ask you one...what do you do with your car? If it's a street car/daily driver, go with GreenStuff. If you want an upgraded pad for your street car that sees occasional track days...go with RedStuff or HPS. If you drive your car mostly on the track, go with YellowStuff or HP Plus.

I hate the look of the green pads as you do see a tiny bit. Both are decent pads so I would go with the hawk pads.

i just installed ebc green stuff front and back with their black dimpled and slotted rotors, on the directions it says green for spritied street and light track, and obviously red then yellow and now they offer blue, anyways just put all this on have yet to drive the car, the weather is being a bitch,

i also noticed a this layer of brake in material on the pads. how important is it to bed these pads in longer than 300 miles, which ebc recommends, ive heard the longer bed in time the longer and better the pads will last, am i just wasting time past 300?
