Default a strong 7.5 rear-end?

can you upgrade a stock rear end and handle horsepower if a car is pumping out 420-500hp on street tires?

can it be done? yes, in a auto car. is it worth it? mmmm.... probably not. depends on the car, your power and driving style, and your budget.

Yeah, check the stickies in the gears and axles section. This question has been beaten to death in there.

The short answer is, yes, you can spend money to beef up a 10-bolt, but it's VERY likely to break eventually. I tend to think it's better to take the money you would have spent on upgrading the 10-bolt and apply it to a 12-bolt or 9-inch.

That's probably why I bought a 12-bolt...

There was a Pontiac Performance Magazine that did a write up about beefing up the 10 bolt; things like yukon axles and different differential etc. I put one of them aluminum covers on mine and thats as much money as im going to spend on it. A 12 bolt is more worth it to me, its like an insurance policy.

It may not be the best investment. You could funnel that money into a stronger rear end and be ahead of the game.

The problem us who want to use a T2R however, don't have that option on a 12 bolt or a 9 inch. Hence why I've put off any decisions yet to modify my rear end. It's still stock with T2 and 3.42 gears.

I won't chance it anymore. Not only did my rearend break at the track but it busted up the tranny too. 12 bolt is in now and the tranny has been repaired. Your playing with fire beating on a 10 bolt and it's just a matter of time before you get burned.

But a truetrac is no better than a T2 as far as powering out of a corner
