help, rotor won't come off
Ok, what's the trick here? My rotor doesn't want to come off. Hitting it with a rubber mallet not doing much good as far as I can see. What's the trick? Caliper off, rotor wont move, please advise...

yeah bfh is very tempting. first tried a rubber mallet. Then actually just doing it with my mini sledge and a 2x6 in between. damn brake dust I don't like though, dangerous stuff. But anyway, doesn't seem to be budging. I think maybe hitting it directly with the full size sledge might do it, but more likely to warp it on even worse though and hate to put that side load on my rear end too. Oh also put some pb in there. Maybe more pb. I don't know. Please anybody know the trick take the time to let me in on the secret Oh and by the way, it's tough to get any kind of swing with the hammers without laying under the car and eating all that asbestos dust. Glad I'll be switching to ceramic this time for the future.

It takes time , patience, WD 40, AND most important - continue in a circle , don't hit the same spot more than twice in a row. I should have counted but I must have hit mine 40 or 50 times to get it to just barely move.

Thanks for the help guys, went with my big sledge , with a wood block and plenty of pb penetrant, whacked one side, turned 180 deg. whacked the other side and bingo. Thanks again guys. And yes had the ebrake off

Funny, the driver side one practially jumped off and attacked me when I got the sledge close to it...
BTW, night and day difference now with the new rotors. I should have done it long ago!

yeah I remember once on my dakota they were so rusted on, I had the tire off, bunch of times in a row I jacked it up and dropped it on the rotor and it still wouldn't budge lol.
sweet look with those wheels btw Luna. Is that a chrome/polished lip or just reflection? Not usually a fan of black wheels without the contrast lip, but that's a great pic. Though of course somehow black makes a lot of cars look much better to me

A "Kinder and Gentler" way is to take a 2X4 or 2X6, place it across the studs and then use two C-Clamps to pull on each back side of the rotor. If you slowly tighten both sides, and use a little penetrating lubricant, it will "pop" off. Its a little more involved than using a hammer, but it does cut down on flying rotors.

You really don't have to go after it with a hammer. All you need is a couple of bolts to thread into the rotor...tighten them down with a ratchet and the rotor will pop off...very easy and no damage to the rotor.
All rotors have the threaded screw holes located in between the openings for the lugs.
