Default Caution for lowering your car!

So for everyone out there thinking about lowering your car. Heres a little something to think about. I made the mistake of lowering my car with eibachs pro kit and not installing an adjustable pan hard bar to recenter the rear end back up.

So this is what happened to me at about 110mph on my way home for lunch today. So definately buying an adjustable panhard bar now. This is just a warning not sure if this will happen to everyone but it def. happened to me and i ve only had my car lowered for about 6 months. Pretty much the U joint just exploded because of the slight angle that was put on it from the rear end being off centered.

Oh yeah PS= driveshaft loop is def. next on the list also!

damn son! I guess I'm glad I checked, rechecked, and triple-stamp checked my centering measurements...but you could have just had a U-joint problem before and this just happened to multiply it.

DS loop has always been the first mod I've done, because I have watched a buddy pole vault his Mustang at about half-track. Made for a cool video, but costly and dangerous.

yes that driveshaft is definately gettin mounted on my wall of shame. I do think that my u-joint did have something to do with it, i bought them from advance auto about 6 months ago. Im not really that pissed off that i broke my driveshaft, im more pissed off that my drive shaft came up and hit the underside of my rear passenger seat and left a dent the size of a watermelon so now i need to get that pounded back out.

Thats pretty crazy, glad to hear you are alright...but are you sure its from the springs and not just a freak accident...because I had those springs on my car for maybe 3 yrs before I ended up putting an adjustable panhard rod on and nothing like that ever happened.
And I had gone 110 and above multiple times

Are you sure that was all because of the axle position? Did anything you hit or whatever induce the thing to pop?

as far as i know i didnt hit anything to cause it. The funny thing is I actually checked my u joints like the day before to see if they were ok and they were both tight. I think that it may possibly have been a defective U joint that i bought at advance......imagine that. Oh well, im supposed to be picking up a stock driveshaft tom. and hopefully i will have her back up and running this weekend.

I think you have a problem other than just springs without a phb. Anything is possible I suppose, but I've had several cars, all lowered, and never had that problem. Maybe I'm just lucky...but I still say you have another issue.

I agree!!

I had an '85 Firebird SE, bought it brand new in spring of '85. Shortly thereafter, I installed a set of Koni lowering springs. Back then, suspension parts weren't as readily available, and neither was the expertise with the 3 link rear end. What I'm getting at, is that I drove that car for 10 years with the rear end the usual 1/8" off center after lowering, and never had a problem....

Yeah not saying that it's not the reason or that it didn't contribute it, but you don't want to say something was the prime reason when it could have been something else

Any thought on that being a result of an incorrect pinion angle (T/A) as apposed to the rear being slightly off center?
