I am new to the area. Where is a good place in the austin area to get a complete 5.3? Anyone got one for sale?

I prefer not to. I'm looking for a complete take out with most of the harness and PCM. These retards on CL think their "low mileage" motors on a pallet is worth 2k plus. There is a guy in temple who seriously wants 1500 for a 98 long block. He isn't the only dreamer I've found so far.

 

I know of 1 that needs new cam bearings. No harness or PCM.

 

How much?

 

$300. Motor belongs to a friend.
For another $150, I will throw in a harness and PCM, brand new truck intake complete with injectors, throttle body and a water pump all pulled off a 4K mile Silverado. Those parts are mine and not my friend.

 

my buddy has a 4.8 intake too pan 110k miles for $400 here in Austin.

Since the 5.3 has issues with a lifter tick issue from failing oil pumps, your drop in will still need the oil pump replaced.
This 5.3 already has a new oil pump. The oil pump and lifters were replaced when the tick was evident. After those parts were replaced, the tick came back 2 weeks later.

 

I am going to have a complete 5.3 long block freshly built all clevite bearings, arp rod bolts profesionally machined and assembled all new gaskets , oil pump , rings , and for extra you can even pic the cam and springs if you want . PM me if you might be interested.
