Default SAM '98 Camaro Z28 goes 10.03

Hey everyone out there in LS1tech land. Just wanted to let everyone know how things are going at SAM. We recently went out to Houston Raceway Park to do a little testing on our 500ci LS2 in our '98 Z28. For those who are not familiar with the setup, I'll give a little background info. We started with an LS2 6.0L block, then added the 1" deck plates by ERL with the common sleeve through the plates and block. We get a 4.500 stroke with the extra deck height. Custom 4.200" Wiseco pistons for the added stroke had to be made. We just went with stock LS7 heads ,an LS7 intake, and a relatively small hydraulic roller cam, 248/254 @ .050, with .647" lift. ERL and Wiseco wanted this to be a "street" engine and have good driveability, that was the reason for the small cam. However the motor makes 717HP and 630LB/FT of Torque on pump gas. Wiseco wanted to see what sort of abuse this monster could take, so they sent us a NOS plate kit and told us to have some fun. After dozens of pulls and a few bottles of Nitrous, the motor held together strong, putting down 923HP and 905LB/FT of Torque on a 200HP shot. We took the motor and put it in one of the schools cars with a full interior and full 8 point cage. Just the other week we received the new prototype FAST LSX.R intake manifold to do some testing with. By merely bolting the intake on to the motor, we picked up almost 35 rwhp! That's through a TH400 and a non-lock up 5000 stall converter. The almost 3800lb camaro went as quick as 10.03 @ 134mph on motor with a 30mph. We are still working on suspension and traction with this lead sled, but 9's on the motor are in the near future. Here's a link to the build up http://www.samracing.com/500ciLS2.html

Why? You would just sell it!

man i bet that setup cost a pretty penny. Congrats on the setup. Why did they want to build a street motor? Isnt that a little out of the direction of the normal SAM habbits?

It was a project we did for Wiseco Pistons and ERL.

That setup sounds healthy

Were those power numbers on an engine dyno?

By custom bellhousing I was referring to some recent "modifications"
