Pretty old news. I don't think I have anything to worry about.
Glad to see Ford might actually be bringing some competition. Now they won't only sound amazing , but they might actually be packing some power. I would be interested to see how well they respond to mods.

Well the "coyote" engine is old news. I made that thread a while ago. But the fact that it put down 468 hp down isnt old. Thats new. At 315 hp it did very well against the camaro, but give it a 153 hp more? Who knows... Its a 4v and rumor has it that it will have an 11.0:1 compression ratio... im pretty confident it will respond VERY WELL to bolt ons. My guess is that this is the LS engine of ford, and maybe and Intake and exhaust will finally give us +35 RWHP!

I am stoked about it, competition breeds innovation! However, I feel like we are living in the last days of muscle era. I just have this feeling that federal requirements will soon choke out the muscle car.

Are you suggesting that we all leave this once great nation is search for some undiscovered, populated continent in which to form our own nation in which we will have the freedom to drive whatever we like? Next you'd want to be able to fly the flag of that nation without grief.

i really hope ford does release that engine, they are still in the performance game.
if ford does release that engine,
it will only give GM an incentive to release there gen 5 and 6 engines with
3 valves cylinder head engines.
heads that flow like ls7 in production cars

That they do... DI isnt really that great if your staying N/A cost is too high for what its worth and not only that, people are having a lot of troubles with tuning the car. What happened to the good old days when cars were simple..?

I've always respected ford, I love mustangs but EVERYONE has one, It's kinda sad when you go to the track and people have fully built n/a 281's hitting low 12's and procharged gt's in the 12's as well. I hope they make a badass motor thats semi-affordable unlike the termi motor.

I don't think any V8 Camaro owners are to worried about Ford finally ponying up something other than a supercharged Mustang to make power. However I am going to be in line for both an 2011 Shelby and if the 2011 Z/28 comes out

I think its great news since I will never buy another post 2010 car from gm again and if ford comes out with this engine...maybe ford will be the king of performance.
Given the hemi is a great engine, but they won't be around too much longer and gm is now gov't motors...so the gen V is IMO as good as dead. Ford is the last true American car company and will therefore recieve my money if I buy a new American car, and this just makes me all the more happy.

If i think of an Fbory with anything less than a 5.7, im my mind i think its insufficient for some reason. but when i picture a mustang with a similar sized motor, i think its too much. i guess im so used to stangs running small cubes

Well given the length of the stroke of the 5.4L.. your limited when going with power due to the inefficiency to entering high RPM. The 5.0 is perfect IMO due to the shorter stroke and bigger bore, allowing the engine to rev higher. Most of the gains are coming from the high compression and volumetric efficency of the heads.. The official announcement is on December 7, 2009. I dont think that we are going in the same direction as the 60's, because our level of reducing emmisions is impressive compared to the old days. I dont think we are going to have the EPA stop producing cars with high HP.
