Think my dad's insurance company is smoking crack(68 camaro ss worth 105K)
Long story short my dad has lived in New Mexico for a while and finally moved back to Texas, when he changed his insurance he got it classified as an antique/classic since he only drives it maybe a 1000 miles a year. Anyway its a 68 camaro ss red on black, its not stock but he has all the stock parts. I mean everything down to the factory manifold bolts. Its restored in what I would call 8/10 condition, its got a few things with the paint that could be fixed and other little things here and there but otherwise a pretty cherry car. He told me the insurance company said that the car was worth 105-115K since it was an original 350 car, apparently there werent a lot of them made? I realize in this economy he would never get that, and he doesnt plan on selling it but I just couldnt believe that they would insure his car for that much. Am I just that out of touch with car prices or are they stupid?

I would say a car like that would maybe go for 40k depending on the quality of the restoration. 105k is what the original gm 427 cars go for. the ones that have 2k original miles and have sat in a climate controlled garage with a cover on all the time.
id say they are quoting it at that price so they can jack up his insurance.

His insurance went down classifying it the way it is, he actually has more insurance now at a lower cost. Granted he has a mileage cap now but he doesnt hardly drive it anyway. Id tend to agree that its more in the 30ish range, thats why 100K caught me way off guard.

The fact that he has the original 350 according to the ins company is what makes the value go up since they were pretty rare. All this is according to them since I havent actually looked up the produciton numbers and what market value is.

Go to Hagerty and you can have it appraised and valued by them. As far as the 105k, someone hit the crack pipe to many times. This car would be worth around 30-40k in good condition even with the original motor. Matching number 68 Z/28's are around 50k and if it were a 1969 Z/28 or SS it would be slightly higher.

They put 350's in the 67's, 68's and 69's, probably the most common motor to go in 1st gen Camaro's. I have Haggerty insurance on my 69 with an agreed to value of $35,000.00. The policy costs me right at $300.00 a year, 3000 mile cap limit. Go here http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml
