Anyone else get jewed in their taxes?
Got my taxes done the other day, apparently I owe 158$ to our amazing government. But this is the greatest part of it all, I'm a waiter, I only make $2.13 an hour, litteraly recieve 0$ paychecks, work almost 40 hours a week and still somehow the government didn't tax me enough. Bullshit this is.

I always got money back when I was a server. Either you claimed 1, or your company didn't take enough money out of your check. It all depends on how much you claimed on tips, that's how they figure how much to withhold

I never claimed anything so they think i basically make nothing. I didn't even do the forms took it to the guy that does my parents, all i have to do is just sign. My brother got like 1.3K back and he was a waiter also, but i have no idea if he claimed his tips or not.

If only I paid that, sent my check for a new car ahhhh owed taxes yesterday. Oh and thats on top of claiming 0 and having extra held out every month. I am headed to the Tea Party meeting later .

well, i dont owe money, but somehow im only getting $91 bucks back, compared to 3xx last year. doesnt make any sense seeing as they actually withheld about 150 more this year than last year. if it werent for the fact that im under 24 and a full time student, i'd be getting 856. although i dont pay rent or bills, i do pay for my education and basically everything else, yet i cant get the student credit because they assume my parents pay for it as im a dependent.

you need to learn how to do your own taxes. why pay someone to do a simple return.
probably as easy as:
$10,930 income (example)
-$3,650 personal exemption
-$5,700 standard deduction
= $1,580 taxable income x 10%
= $158
think of all the infrastructure thats available to you for your contribution of $158. today 51% do not pay income taxes, if it were up to me everyone would pay on every dollar earned. i'm cool with a progressive tax scale but i believe we shouldnt have any freeloaders, everyone needs to have some skin in the game period. oh and what the hell is going on when you see baby mama getting a refundable tax credit...

As for me, I had to pay and I claim a 1, plus I make over 60 K and am single, so I am on another bracket. Would love to claim my jobless G/f but that won't work. Oh well it is what it is. Be glad you're only paying a few hundred. Hopefully I'll get alot more next year when I start grad school.
Do you claim your own tips? If not, they are required to tax you for min wage including your 2.15 with the difference added as tips. Minimum wage went up this year.

You make so little that at the end of the year you get it all back.
PS, it's better to owe than receive thousands back at the end of the year. Why let Uncle Sam make interest on your money when you can.

Since you posted what you make an hour what did you make for the year and what did Federal and Social Security take out? Something sounds fishy. Did you claim your tips because that may be why you owe since you didn't pay taxes on that.

i did mine online through HR block and had to mail them in because we were first time home buyers last year. With my wife not working since august last year we are still getting back just under $13k.. i was pretty excited about that, but its ALL going towards paying off bills and such.

tell me about it. i have to file my business taxes quarterly. having to pay every quarter isnt bad . however its sweeter when you get some sort of return come tax time. i can remember a time when i thought getting back a check for 80$ was doing good. at this point im happy to break even.
