Building a good engine to hold a supercharge
I want to build a engine to run boost thur it. I have a 1998 camaro z28 with the stock 346 5.7. Do I just take that one off and get it's forge pistons with a low compression? Or go ahead and make it a 383 strocker? Or a 6.0 and strocker that 1? I need to get ideas to see what I'm going to be doing.

its a 346.
and how much can you afford?
what supercharger/how much boost/what hp range?
also why 383?
and it is easy to build an iron block LQ motor for boost. but it all depends on what you want. you need to be more specific.

well I really don't care how much is going to cost (im not going to do it over night, thinking of buliding the engine out side the car and droping in one's I have everything ready) I know that is going to take alot of money, and having something nice and done right comes out to be expensive. Do it once and do it right. I say the 383 because I was thinking about just strocking out the engine I have now and now I'm thinking if it be a good idea to supercharge if I were to go with that 383. And as in how much boost. I was told that my engine now can handle 6 to 8 psi safety with out blowing nothing out. So I'm thinking on going over 12 psi of boost. I want to build something that's going to have around 550 hr power to the wheels and can use to drive around good in the street (would say daylie driver but I have another car to be driving around). I have a friend that is going to start building a 240sx and what's to drop a 5.3 iron block and plans to boost that lil thing, he said it would hold alot more boost, he says cast iron block are nerly indistructible.

you have to bore your block to achieve a 383, not just stroke it.
and you do realize that 550 to the wheels equals 650ish at the crank right?
if it were me i'de take an LQ block, stuff it with a callies crank and rods, diamond dished pistons, AFR heads, slap an F1C on it and call it a day
but that's if you want to do it right...

but like i said a cammed ls1 plus a D1SC will get you around 550rwhp. the other set up i mentioned will get you roughly a bagillion rwhp. but if you can afford it i would not hesitate to do so.

Just did a 03 Zo6 (ls6) with long tubes, stock cam, stock internals, P1sc-1 procharger @ 6psi it made 568 to the tire.. But with the D1 like brian is stating will be even better and its only a couple hundred upgrade when buying the kit..

You do realize that you can get a 550hp build for much cheaper and less complicated than a supercharger setup. A well built 383 can achieve your goal. Seeing as though money is no concern you should be able to afford a good setup.
Or you can build a 402 or 408 for 10 grand. which is as much as you would spend on the supercharger setup alone. pluss a n/a setup would be easier to mantain and tune.

Thats alot of $$$$ Probably looking at 15 to 20k!
If 550whp is what your looking for.... Boltons and a D1 will get you there! Im making 523whp thru a 9in with bolt-ons and a little P1.

yeah i was just joking about the built LQ.
and since a stock ls1 can handle a D1 why not go for it? its only slightly more expensive.
also i just can't conceive doing a blower with out doing full bolt ons AND cam first. if not heads too.
and it should go with out saying that you will need a new rear end to handle the almost 600 rwhp this set up will put down.

most econo way would to find good healthy lq4.
pull heads, surface .005, lunati duals or patriots springs
reinstall ls9 head gaskets with arp studs.
udp if dont alredy have
upgraded oil pump.
ls1 c5 or ls6 intake manifold.
10+psi capable with pump gas, correct tune, adequate fuel, fmic
it will be around 9.6:1 with these gaskets and .005 milled from heads.

well I plan on doing step by step. Like 1st go out and get a good block and get that build then keep on adding on all the bolt on's to it till I'm finally done. But my goal by the end of the day would be to take on the shelby gt500.
