So I guess Mustangs are the thing now
Well since I bought my Camaro last year my neighbors started buying pony cars too, but not just any pony a Mustang.
At the beginning of this year my neighbors 19yo son traded in, plus cash, his little old 6 cylinder nissan pickup for a 99 Mustang GT convertible. Ever since he got it his dad and him have been bragging about it to the neighbor hood, that is until they found out how much more they would have to pay in insurance, to repair the torn top, and to pay to get the engine repaired cause they are not mechanically inclined.
After them two more neighbors got Mustangs in the past 3 months, but these two were smarter.
4 houses down one of the neighbors got a '11 Mustang GT (hopefully their son doesn't crash it like he crashed his big brothers Mustang Cobra). Hope he gives me a chance to race him at the track once my swap is done, I want to experience first hand how tough these new Mustangs are.
And finally my next door neighbor just got a new edge Mustang Cobra a few days ago. A clean white Mustang with black 17" rims. Not sure on the year but the little time I heard it idle it doesn't seem like a "termi".
So anyone else noticing an increase in the popularity of the Mustang nameplate ever since the new Mustang came out?

Right now the Mustang 5.0 is the flavor of the month. Camaros were the flavor of the month for awhile. Right now the Challenger SRT8 with the 6.4 is the next big thing, but I don't think enough of them will be sold to reach flavor of the month status.
It is what it is.
At least they aren't ricers.

Mustangs were always popular right? A 5.0 in my driveway would be nice. Right along side a bad *** truck too, one day. Any info on the new Challengers?
I remember many years ago in College Station all the hot chicks were driving SS's and WS6's. Good **** man, too bad I was like 12.

I don't actually think it's bad, I just kinda think how one good model can bring back to life a whole nameplate. Hopefully the same happens once the new Z28 Camaro shows up, according to what I heard it might come equipped with the 6.2L LSA.

But they haven't been considered the best performing "muscle" car all the time.
The same way that when LS1 Camaros came out on the track they showed that stock by stock they were faster than the GT Mustangs of the same year.
Now with their 5.0 Mustangs are considered better than the 6.2L SS Camaro.
I wasn't born yet in the 80's but if I remember my car history correctly I think it also happened for a few years with the Fox bodies also. The fox bodies in stock trim were performing better than the stock 305 Camaros.

from 1994-1998 the Mustang was the laughing stock of the V8 world.
in 05 they came out with a stronger 4.6 and a new design.
in 2010 they came out with another design and a bit stronger 4.6
FINALLY, in 2011 the GT has power and speed by the *****. unbelievable car. i test drove a maroon one and a black one in Alvin.
the seats are even more comfortable than my SRT8 seats. it's very spacious and doesn't make you feel clausterphobic like the new SS.
425hp out of a tiny 5.0 !?!?! unimaginable to say the least.
car ******* rolls out. it's impressive watching the needle sweep passed 90 as if it was sweeping passed 60. pulls extremely hard up to @ 120.

I'm a GM guy by heart, I was born in a family that always drove GM cars for the most part. And both the first car I ever drove and bought were Chevrolets but 425hp from a 5.0L engine is an impressive technological achievement.
I hope this competition shows GM to start building more efficient engines that rely on high revving combos and efficient engine combustion designs rather than just cubes.

Yes its the late 80's early 90's all over again. EVERYBODY ran 5.0's. cheaper and a little faster than the gta's and camaro's. Very Few TPI cars could keep up with them once they did all the bolt ons.
just wait..streets are going to be crawling with em. These things run in cycles anyway. looks like its 5.0 time for a while.
