It detonates under WOT with 87 octane, so it has to be the higher compression LQ9 i assume.

AFAIK, the LQ9 did not exist for MY2001. It was introduced in the Escalade in 2002. I suppose it could have been swapped, but the earliest you could get an LQ9 in a Silverado was with the SS in 2003.

It was in the escalades starting in 2002, then the SSSs in 2003, then later on the vortecmax packages in 06, along with the Denalis in 05.

A 2500HD never had an LQ9 in it from the factory, and in 2001 the very early LQ4s still had iron heads and a longer crank, if your engine does in fact hve 317s on it then it is a regular 01. Are you sure its not just pinging? If it is detonating on a stock tune then you have a problem. Timing on the factory LQ4 tune is LOW, like 16 low.

Hell, i assumed the detonation ping was from a higher compression engine, so, i will sea foam it, see if it helps, but the previous owner had 87 in it, so if 93 doesnt help, i will know something is up, injectors perhaps? Going to get a tune on it anyway.

Seafoam, plugs, wires, clean maf/filter, the usual then hook it up to scanning software and see if it is getting real knock or not. Generally my truck only gets touchy with knock around peak tq(expected) but nothing audible atleast. Im running an LQ4 in my truck but on 93 and Im at 28*s at peak tq. Every once in a while Ill get a degree or two of knock but my knock sensor settings are sitll fairly sensitive.

That is the plan, i was just thinking that it was due to higher compression, it didnt do it at high RPMs, just at low end while at WOT, like the TQ area.

Peak tq is around 4200 on stock cammed LQ4s FYI, Im running a gt2-3 cam so my tq is shifted ever so slightly up and my KR comes in around there. If you put 93 in it and it doesnt go away then you know its not a tune problem.

Yea, i am going to fill her up with 93 and sea foam, change plus and wires, if it is still there, hope full a filter change and a tune will get it right.

I dogged the **** out of my 07 classic rcsb w/ the 300hp 6.0.

87 octane, WOT every day, no pinging/knocking.

I picked up an 01 2500 HD a couple of months ago as a daily driver. Freakin love it.

That misfire could be the rear knock sensor going bad. On these trucks, the rear knock sensor really likes to rust and fail and the wiring harness starts to deteriorate.. I bought the truck with a knock sensor code being thrown. After 1 hour of pulling the intake, and 2 days of destroying the knock sensor to get it out, she runs perfect.

Those are the best Chevy HD front ends made in the last decade, it is too bad they switched them to the uglier nose shortly after those. The raised hood looks mean on these.
