Ill get u a pic later but I just modified mine
The ball on the end is pressed on - wrap it with a towel and grab it with some pliers and it'll twist right off. Make a mental note of the shape of the part that inserts into the ball cuz you will have to reproduce it on the end of the new shaft. Cut it down to whatever length you want and using a file or grinder, sharpen the tip so it will fit in the ball. I put a drop of super glue in the ball and put it on the new shaft and whacked it a few times with a piece of wood to seat it firmly.
I then went further and scuffed the entire thing and sprayed a few coats of gloss black krylon on it before putting it back on

I installed an inline switch on an Integra I had a while back so that when the switch was in the off position the antenna would not get the signal to raise, that way it stayed down all the time unless I flipped the switch then it would go up, also if in the on the position the antenna would work as normal, down with the car off up with the car on.
On my Camaro I cut my antenna and put a 1/8th vacuum cap on the tip, I know that won't work for you since you have a T/A.
