I think it's employer's discretion. If you're salary, most companies will mark it as an "excused absence". If you're hourly, they're probably more likely to dock you a day.

they do not have to pay you unless you are salary and classified FLSA Exempt. it is just an 'excused absence'

It would be a good idea to ensure that there is no wording in the company's vacation/PTO policy that would prohibit or complicate application of paid leave to a jury duty absence."
basically, if you want to get paid for the day, take a PTO day, or you just have to take an unpaid excused absence.

Show up and when they start talking about the case, raise your hand and say "He's not a "racial slur" or a "racial slur" is he? You'll be out pretty quick. I work for the gov't so we get paid to go but I never get those notices to show up for it.

During the jury questioning process, no matter what the subject matter is, speak up often and try to sound like you are an expert in whatever the subject matter is.
I've been on several jury panels, and from what I have seen in the past, they usually want the quiet people on the jury.

It's easy to get out of. When you answer questions just tell them you are prejiduce. I told them I did'nt like n****r's and I have'nt heard from them since. I'm not prejiduce by the way, I just did'nt want to do jury duty.

I told them I did not believe all police officers were 100% truthful and could be believed over other witnesses. I got picked.
There is a ton of science behind picking juries. Doing something to make one side hate you, will get the other side to want you.
