Default Picked up work truck today

After laughing at the only local dealership out where I am working/staying I drove up to San Antonio and picked up an '07 chevy 2500hd crew cab duramax with 138k on it. No frills or thrills other than aftermarket bumpers, goose neck hitch, headache rack, steps and auxiliary fuel tank/toolbox. My only complaint it I have to find a way to easily open the hood, bumper is real close. Still has stock everything and I am pretty sure belonged to some local rancher.

Any advice on fuel mileage improvements or performance enhancements? I will eventually level out the front and get bigger tires once I wear these down.

I would think a nice tuner and exhaust should help out quite a bit but am no expert. Congrats on the truck man!

Look at the Edge Juice with Attitude monitor. It's adjustable on the fly and you have the gauges built in. You can go up to 100hp/200tq. It'll automatically reduce power if it needs to in order to prevent damage. A good exhaust is a must..I like a good 5" with no muffler

Is it the LMM or the LBZ, both were available in the 07 year model.

What is the difference and how can I tell?

I was told an AFE down pipe, better air filter and 4" exhaust will really help it out along with a programmer but don't know anything about the diesels.

Went down to the local auto accessory store "AutoZone" and they only had the Bully Dog GT tuner in stock and want $599 for it. I will probably order a different one and have it shipped out but still not sure which one to get.

I did pick up a replacement air filter today and talked to a guy about exhaust. Don't want the noise of straight pipes but dont want to spend a lot of money on this exhaust. Options?

Look in the the glove box to find RPO codes, look in the L's as they are in alphabetical order. See if you have LBZ or LMM. I'm thinking the LMM is for the NBS and the LBZ was for the classics. You definately want to get it to breathe before hopping up the electronics. The VVT (variable vane turbo) in these trucks dampen a lot of the exhaust noise so what you get in return, sounds like a jet taking off. I have a Silverline 304 SS downpipe back 4" exhaust and I love it. When you hop a diesel up, you will need gauges. The edge box as referenced above is nice. The gauges are built in, but you will have to add a pressure transducer and EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) probe to get them to work. Hypertech and DiabloSport are a couple nice programmers. The Allison can handle ~90 hp over stock before you start to **** it off. You may want to check out blocking the EGR valve. Good luck!

Lol you should have waited to look at my dually. 24mpg at 80mph, 26 at 70 and 29 at 60.

Averaged 24 the whole way back at 75-80mph, holding 23 city right now, and that's with 4.11 gears.

Handles beautifully, oh and buy a used tuner. Payed $150 for my bullydog.

You're so full of **** I can smell you from Austin.

To the op, is it the new body style or classic body style? Don't waste your money in an air filter, the factory one is the best. No downpipe needed either, get a "turboback" exhaust with either engine and an Efi tune from duramaxtuner.com. the dsp5 switch is badass and a regular programmer won't touch it in power or economy. On a stock trans you're not going to get away with much power to begin with. I did manage 365/752 to the ground on a stock trans through 35s on my 06 lbz.

Just been in the diesel world way too long to believe your bs. Either you're going by the driver info center which isn't accurate after the computer is tuned or your odometer is off, or you don't know how to do math. Cummins get the best mileage out of all the class 3 diesel, but I've NEVER seen anyone get 30mpg. 26 with 3.73s, a very hot tune, and water injection isn't very uncommon but not in a shitty tuned 4.10 geared dually, get out of here with that crap

My lifted Cummins dually got 12mpg with an Edge EZ, AFE intake, 5" straight pipe.

Sorry but I drove on some of the roads out here and knew that I needed something sooner than the next time I was coming home. That Dodge is nice but I couldn't justify the wait or the dually without 4x4. Your Ford would make more sense out where I am.

shut the **** up already.

you clearly can't do simple math. no way is a dually going to get close to 24mpg @ 80... .ESPECIALLY with 4.11 gears.

^sorry, this was me, didn't know my brother was logged in on my computer :o :o :o

regardless, i've operated and owned many different generations of diesels and NONE of them got the mileage you claim. The fact you claim you get that out of a dually is laughable.

And I currently own a DPF/DOC deleted 6.4L superduty and on stock tires before the lift I was cracking the 24mpg range @ 70. and that was on the lie-o-meter.

This was the BEST I ever got before I installed the 35x12.5's tires and a 2.5" lift.

EVEN THEN I had to hand calculate my mileage which was closer to 24.Xmpg @ 70. (Houston - Dallas trip)

You obviously are underestimating the kiddo and his hand held tuner skills... he has been in the diesel game for almost 6 months now, he surely knows his ****.

I just topped it off today, 21.8, half city half highway. Overhead says 20.8 but I reset it a few days ago.

To be honest I didn't want you or anyone else to buy the Ford because I was having a lot of problems with the A/C and I couldn't figure it out so that's why I kinda talked you out of it. But I just replaced the compressor a week ago and that seems to have fixed it.

Have fun with your new truck, a tuner is worth every penny.
