Default Any sharp-shooters in here? Anyody have land in S. DFW to shoot at?

I have a couple rifles that are 1000yd+ capable, but I have not been able to get them out past 250 because that is the farthest shot I can make at my house. Anybody in here have any land to shoot long range at? I can't justify driving all the way to Mineral Wells at the closest 1k range. This is Texas and I know people have to have something set up! ha ha Anyway, Post up your long-range rigs and lets get together and shoot! I'm located in Alvarado. 20 mins S. of Ft. Worth.

its harder than you may think. either people just dont want that noise or liability on their land or their neighbors dont want it. i could engage to 1k+ but whats the point? waste ammo? get a sunburn? spend money?

enjoy your 250 shot and have fun with that. hell, when the zombies attack that should be about ideal killing range anyhow!!!!

Whats the point of putting headers and a CB on our cars? Make noise? Get greasy? Spend money? No. Its to achieve something: winning races, improving track times, and because it's fun. Shooting is my second hobby. ANY kind of shooting. I am tired of driving to Mineral Wells and PLENTY of people have the land and somebody is bound to have similar interests.
In the grand scheme of target shooting, 250 yards isn't ****. People don't tell you to enjoy racing the length of your paved driveway in a car that's built to run a full 1/4. Anyway, if you know of a place/person that has some distance be sure to let me know. Thanks for the input.

good analogy. I think you should join a gun club in your area. Sure it will cost you a small yearly fee but the benefits usually outweigh the cost of membership. You will have greater access to ranges, private and public, discounts on guns and ammo, and you meet a lot of great people who love to shoot just as much as you. Heck, you might even get to shoot competitively and win something!

There is actually a gun club with a private range down the street from my house, but there is upwards of a 2 year wait for it. And their private range is 200 yards.

I am on the shooting forums like Sniper's Hide and LRH from time to time. Ill probably go post over there. Its annoying because there are 3 types of people over there. The type of ignorant person who runs their mouth like they know everything, the people who just about DO know everything, and the middle guys like me. Its not near of a user-friendly site as LS1tech is.

yah I would settle for 500, we qual with our m16/m4 at 500 with just an RCO or Iron sights, would be fun to shoot that distance without the pressure.

I have shot in service rifle match up to 600 with iron sights, but there is something about precision shooting that I REALLY like more so than anything else. We have a 500 acre ranch out in Zephyr, but its our family hunting land and too much shooting will scare away the deer, and its too much of a risk. Anybody got any tack drivers here? Lets see them!

this was mine before it got stolen, I had just gotten it dialed in at 500 yds with some reloads....punching the same hole at 200 yards got boring.

I'm building a rig off a Howa 1500 right now. It'll be a while till its done, but should be a shooter. What upper/barrel is that? The last one I built will shoot 1/2 MOA consistently with a WOA barrel and 77gr SMKs, but has a crappy RRA trigger I re-worked. I think I can get them down a hair more with a better one. This is a pic before my A2 stock came in:
