for a little more than what they quoted, you could buy a good set of gauges and a vacuum pump and do this yourself anytime you need to... not to mention you could easily make your money back by recharging a few of your friends cars... this is the route i went

Lol I like your style but I just don't have enough friends with a/c problems to invest in this. But who knows...anyone else?

Once you recharge YOUR A/C, your friends WILL want their cars done as well. nothing blows colder than a freshly pumped and charged A/C system.

Yup, this is what I did. I bought a $50 gauge set with hoses but I opted for the $100 2.5 CFM pump but they do have one for $15.

I've got a guy in San Antonio that does great work. Will have it in and out and take care of you.
PM me if you want his details. He's near Lackland AFB (if it matters).

They probably just did a charge and go. Big differnce froim that and an Evac and Recharge.

Just like with any other auto repair if you can do it yourself do it. If not, dont bitch about what everyones charging, because apparently its not the easiest thing in the world if you cant do it.

I work at a shop and have a really good team of techs we do everything and I hate when people come in bitching about how easy something is and how we overcharge. If its so easy do it your damn self, if not pony up. If you dont have the money, well then do without.
