Speed limits : After Sept. 1, Texas highways will no longer have different speed limits during the day and at night. The new law also lets transportation officials raise limits to 75 mph in remote areas. Dozens of legislators signed on to this bill, including King, Nash, Patrick, Shelton, Smith, Zedler and Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth. (HB1353)

I also like this, Anyone have a chopper??
Hog hunting: Texas hunters may start shooting feral hogs from helicopters as of Sept. 1. Until now, Texans could do so only on their own land. Now, landowners may sell seats to others. (HB716)

It doesn't say anything about lowering them, so I wonder if West Texas will keep it's 80mph speed limit. If so, I wonder why they settled on 75mph instead of 80mph for remote areas. It's only 5mph but that's 5 miles further in that hour.

Fishing: Texans can now legally fish for catfish using their hands rather than a pole -- known as noodling. They just need the required license and freshwater-fishing stamp. A separate law lets Texans 80 and older fish without a license. (HB2189, HB550)

How much you wanna bet that a stretch of roadway that is currently 70 day and 65 night becomes 65 day/night and not 70.

"Romeo and Juliet": The "Romeo and Juliet" law aims to prevent teens and young adults who have consensual sex from becoming criminals. The measure by Smith and Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, prevents a young defendant from having to register as a sex offender if he or she had consensual sex with someone 15 or older. It takes effect Sept. 1. (SB198)

did i just read this right?

I think this has something to do with what happened to a friend of mines kid. He was caught having sex in a car with his girlfriend while skipping school. He was 17 and she was 16. He has to register as a sex offender now because she wasn't of age. I'm not sure if this is retroactive or not but it was a bad deal for him.

I can see how this law benefits high school students and such but what if a 19 year old does something with a 15 year old? In your friends kids situation its understandable that he isnt a sex offender but had to legally register as one and I hope this is retroactive in his case. Not a situation I would wish on anyone since this can affect your whole future as far as work goes. Nobody likes hiring a sex offender......

Nope, I remember in most cars of the eighties that 55 was always bigger or highlighted on gauge clusters. I don't remember when they jumped to 70 though.....

I believe it was early 90s that they moved it back to 70.

In the 80s speedo's were only allowed to show 0-85 so the corvettes went digital so they could show 0-199

Toll fees: Administrative fees charged by a tollway operator such as the North Texas Tollway Authority will be reduced from $100 to $25 for the first notice. Other fees will also be capped or reduced as of Sept. 1, under the measure that Sens. Davis, Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, and Chris Harris, R-Arlington, worked on with Patrick. (SB469)

Thats AWESOME, i had two toll feels of 1.50 each turn into $630 in 6 months and i fought it and was told pay it or we'll seize your car on lein
