You can't test drive'em on a forum. Drive them and pick the one that you like best. The C6 hands down is a nicer car, especially when compared to a no frills C5 Z06. I still prefer the unrefined raw feel and looks of the C5 Z06 to a regular C6. The C6Z06 is another story altogether, I'd take one in heartbeat over my C5Z06, 427 aside, the wide fenders and stance is just what the doctor ordered for the C6.

i was looking for a c5z06 when i got my c6 (z51). the inside is much nicer and most people still think its a new car even though its 6 years old. the c5z still looks nice! i would try to get a ls3 if you can but the ls2 is still good. i messed up and got a 05 with the weaker rear end but its still in one piece with a 150 shot. the 06 up have a better one.

i dont own a vette, but from what i've heard the c6 is much more refined than the c5. they say it rides a bit better and just seems a bit more "european" if that makes sense. the c5 is supposed to be more "american" in that its a bit rougher around the edges. if it were me i'd go with the c5 z seeing as they're quite a bit cheaper, offer similar performance, and imo they look better. but thats just me

i was going thru the same issue.
i have driven an 08 LS3 (stock) and now own 99 FRC (heavily modified).
the 99 feels so much more brutal. in the best way possible.
that may be partially due to mods.... but even the ride of the C6 is so much smoother.
It was an automatic too.
The LS3 had such a broad power curve that it never felt "out of the power" it was just nice and smooth.
i really enjoyed the comfort of it.
my only compaint is that it just felt HUGE. i dont know why. but it felt like a lot bigger car than my C5. and even the handling felt a little bulky.
the steering didnt seem to give as much feel. and it was hard to tell where the "edge" was as far as grip goes.
in the C5 it feels SOOOO natural. it almost feels like an extension of my body. but ... the ride is not nearly as comfortable.
i also happened to think the C5 FRC looks a lot better than the C6. so i pulled the trigger when this one fell into my lap.
the only advice i can give is to see if you can get to drive them both and make up your own mind.

As already stated, go drive one of each and get a feel for what you want out of it. Personally, I went with the C6 because I like the styling better. C5s are beautiful cars (especially Z06s), but I just like the C6 better.
Plus, just about any '02 model anything is going to have developed a few more squeaks and rattles. It might be getting to the point where some things are just wearing out, depending on how well the car has been kept. You might see that as an advantage - I always like to replace worn out parts with upgrades, wherever it makes sense to do so, such as bushings.
My only regret is that I bought a black car. With my detailing OCD, it drives me insane. Still, I bought the car to drive it, not to spend all my time dicking around with modded suspension parts. I like the fact that my maintenance consists of fluids and washes.

Ls2 > ls6!
Have had three c5 and drove a few c6. C6 much better car!
Like Mike said, being that old parts will be expected to be worn compared to the newer model.
And if you can't afford ls3, just throw some mods on the ls2..
