Default Need Tire Shop for 19.5's

I have 19.5's on my dually with 245/70/19.5 tires. I have had Firestone and NTB scratch my rims (polished out for the most part $400 later) and now a 18 wheeler Goodyear shop ruined my front rims changing my tires. They scratch and tore chunks of aluminum out of the rims and messed up the lip of the rims all the way around. Goodyear is buying me new rims (most likely 4 because mine are discontinued) and paying for me to take my truck somewhere else. The problem is I can't find a single tire shop in College Station who has competent workers who can swap my tires to my new rims when they come in. I will drive to Houston, Austin, or Waco if anyone can recommend a tire shop who can mount and balance 245/70/19.5.

Why cry? Move fronts to back and backs to front. Any tire shop should be able to do it. It's nothing special.

Are you ******* serious? Can you not read? Dont you think if it was that easy I would have done that. If any tire shop here could do that I wouldnt be making this post. Plus would you let a tire shop **** up rims that are $500 a piece just put them on the back and call it a day? I hope you dont work at tire shop.

Its a dually, you can't do what you suggested. Most dually rims are not reversable. At least not on any dually I have ever owned.

There was a small Goodyear shop where I used to live that did mine. Was on FM529 between 290 and I10 just west of Houston. You wight check with places like trailer wheel and frame as the do large truck and trailer wheels.

They usually do steel 19.5's with hand bars like most other big truck tire places. Thats how my rims got messed up.

I have called 10 tire shops in College Station and no one will mess with aluminum 19.5's. Every place is saying there are harder than 22.5's or they dont have the machines for them.

19.5 are a bitch to work on, and to not scratch the wheel at all makes it even that much more harder. GL on finding a shop though.

Walker tire in Austin 513-454-8772 or GCR 1-800-737-8473. I would also check with discount tire, but I don't think they work on larger heavy equipment. Good luck

I'll call those, thanks. Discount tire won't touch any 19.5, I use them for my bogarts on my racecar, they were only shop in college station who would change my tires on the bogarts.

Amazing how it's that much pain in the *** Lorenz. Why is a 19.5 harder than a 19 or a 20? Because its aluminum? Or the diameter for the wheel causes the perfect storm?

Its actually nothing to do with the rim being 19.5, its the 16 ply 245/70/19.5 tires that make it so hard. They have a load rating of like 5,000lb a tire and being 16 ply it makes the sidewalls really hard to work with. On a 22.5 the tire is much bigger so there is more sidewall to flex when trying to mount them. Thats what all the tire shops are telling me atleast. When I bought them I had them mounted at a tire shop that does 24" and bigger custom rims ($20k-$30K) and they mounted them no problem, but I was in SC at the time.

Gotta be somewhere in Houston that does them, and you aren't too far from here.

Your missing the whole point. Did you miss the part about I already have 19.5's and tires. I need my tires swapped to new rims since 2 of my rims were ruined.

I would defiantly think so. I go to Houston all the time, I'll gladly go there if I can find somewhere. I have one last possible place here in College Station, they just want to see the rims and tires first but say they shouldnt be a problem at all. My truck is getting painted right now so as soon as its ready (tomorrow hopefully) I am running it by there.

Hey man, sorry to hear about your rims. Not sure if there would be any tire shops in your area that have a touchless tire machine but that is what you need. I know that covettes of dallas has/had it a couple of years back when I did my rims. Heres a vid of one

You beat me to it. I remember a post about them having a nice tire machine, and they do a lot of high end wheels.

A touchless tire machine generally wont do a 19.5 inch rim either. 19.5's are a bitch and three thirds to mount. I would look for a Freightliner dealer and service center. They have trucks that come with polished aluminum rims and should be experienced in mounting them. Any shop that uses the tire spoons to mount them will damage them. And I know its the trend with medium duty diesel trucks right now, but theres a reason that 19.5's are used on heavy duty service trucks instead of street trucks. Most truck drivers couldnt give less of a **** if they have a knick in the rim. As long as its round and holds air they are happy. Personally, I wont touch another 19.5 tire as long as I live. I wont even own one.
