Default Royal Purple Raceway 10/26/12

I was just curious if anybody went out there. I really wanted to go because of the best DA in months, but the north to south headwind of around 22 mph scared me off.

I was just wondering if anybody went and if the times were off due to the headwind.

Hey Jim
Are you gonna make over to Evadale? Have not heard back from you. Gates open at 12:00, junior dragsters run @ 1:00 and then cars start when the juniors finish.

Give me a call, you ought to come on over. Weather should be good all afternoon and into the night. I'll try and help you out with a couple of tips I have picked up on driving that 6spd.

Yea, I'm 99% headed that way tomorrow, will probably leave around 11:00 am. I was going to call you on the way. I talked to a lady at the track today and they claimed tomorrow was supposed to be one of their busier days, but they really didn't know for sure. I'm hoping to get there around 115-130, get teched in and try to make a couple of passes before the other stuff starts.

The weather should be great, especially with a strong N to S wind and the track running the same way.

Goal........12.8!............12.7?..........

The car has it in it, it's on me to get it.

Come on ou. Im gnna meet "Old Goat" over there and see if we can get his new GT down to some more mid-upper 12s. I will bring my 02 Z06, might make a few passes, although I just got through cleaning it up real nice and kinda hate to get rubber all over the paint after wearing myself out with the clay bar & wax

Hey Jim, hope w can get you to your goal ET tonight.

Yeah I've got the itch to go, don't think I'll make it out though. Swapped the magnaflow catback for a GMMG today and had to re-use the magnaflow i-pipe until I can get it to the exhaust shop, so it fits kinda iffy right now. Of course I could always show up, if I do I'll be in the pile in my sig.

Good luck tonight guys

I was there with my LT1 Camaro. The air was real good. Last week my car went 12.87 and I was thinking I would be lucky to improve much because of the headwind, but I was wrong. The car picked up to a 12.59. I was pleased.

My PB was dropped to 12.96, but I'm still waiting some really good air, but most importantly I'm waiting on my driver mods to kick in. I've never raced a manual before and the last manual I drove was in 1995. My prior cars were a high 11 second car (2009 G8 GXP auto), and two low 12 second cars (2009 Vette and 2005 GTO both autos) and I was very comfortable driving them, but learning a manual takes things to many different levels.

Here is the story of my first trip to the track at RPR the other night.
http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.p...l=1#post491007

I've been posting of ahem Mustang ahem sites, as I respect that this isn't a Mustang site. This being said, I'm not a Mustang fanboy, but right now the Mustang is the best bang for the buck. A Camaro with a basically the same mods would have been about $4,000 more, and I drove this car out of the door, brand new with only 10 or so miles on it for $28,300. The car is exactly what I would have ordered, base model with the only option being the 3.73 gears.

My PB was 12.96 and my buddy Floman, his first time to see the car and ran the quarter without even driving it before, ran a 12.93. Floman is a long time racer and has raced manuals before. His hitting a 12.93 first time to even sit in the drivers seat shows the importance of experience. There is no doubt in my mind that if he would have made another pass or two, a 12.8 would have showed up.

If and when I get my **** together, plus get some good air, this is a 12.7 second car for sure, maybe a 12.6 if I happen to get that one great run. In +225 DA, the car ran 12.96, and if we can get a night of -500 or better air, plus I can get off just one good run, I can visualize a 12.7. I will have to have Floman on site, just in case, to get that 12.7.

I know some may disagree with me, but I seem to run best at Royal Purple vs. Sealy and Evadale.

I'm hoping the membership here won't start some sort of Ford vs. GM stuff. I'm really too old for that, plus I'm here as a guy who loves the quarter mile runs, be it in a GM, Ford, or Chrysler. That wasn't the intent of starting this thread. The thread was started to see if the headwind on 10/26/12 kept people from getting a PB. As stated, this was the best air since last March or so and the >20 mph direct headwind scared me off.

Here is a quick vid. that Floman took the other day. The line up and restart is explained below the video when you click on the youtube link.

Nice running into you on your last visit to Royal Purple. You are driving pretty well for being away from manuals for so long. Best of luck on getting some new PB.

I went to Evadale Saturday night in the Mustang. Weather was great and the track was hooking. Ran a new best of 12.31@112 with a 1.86 sixty ft.
