Default Insurance for a Parked Car?

I was wondering if anyone knew of an insurance provider that offers full coverage insurance at a cheaper rate for a vehicle that won't be driven except for a few days a year. I ship off to basic in a few months and I won't be driving for the duration of that and AIT. I'm currently with Farmers and the clerk was not aware of such a policy. The car currently has a lien through PenFed so I must have full coverage while it's being paid off. All recommendations are appreciated! Thanks!

Second vote for USAA. They even have a 'storage' option where the car will not be driven

^^^yep, have USAA and have used the storage option with them in the past. You can manage it all online from your acct page.

I just requested a quote and the site said that I am ineligible. I'm assuming this is due to the fact I'm not "regular army" yet?

I have Pekin insurance and they remove the "liability" portion of my insurance policies on my Trans Am and RV during the winter months and then reinstate the policy when I inform them I am taking the vehicles out of storage.

When I park my Firehawk during the winter months, State Farm always let me drop everything except comprehesive that way if anything happens while it is parked it will be covered.

I have AAA, and I just had them take collision off. Comprehensive will cover any damage.

If your car isn't paid off and there is a lien you're probably not going to be able to drop the liability or collision. If you get it paid off a lot of insurance companies offer what you're looking for. Hartford does it for me in the winter months here in Pa. But only because I solely own the car.

I have a lien on mine and it has never been a problem. It just depends on who the lienholder is. Capital One wouldn't do it with my Monte Carlo back when they were the lienholder.

No lender will let you do it as long as they are the lienholder. If your buddy gets you drunk one night and takes your keys to the garage and tears off in your car they want to make damn sure they get their money!

I Strongly disagree. It depends on the lender, I know from experience.

I also had a good experience with USAA on my z06, put it in storage coverage. I believe it was $40 a month?

To answer your question yes there are companies that will do it. My vette, trans am and truck were all considered "pleasure vehicles" when I was working offshore. Tell your clerk to ask the agent about it. Now the reduction in the amount of your rate might not be all that great but it will be less. You could also increase your deductible to help lower your rate while you are not driving it.
