Railroad employment
Just wondering if anyone knew or knows of someone working in the railroad business? I have 2yrs left to retire out of the army ran into an old man while at the lake Charles mall one weekend and liked what He said about working there.also looking to settle down in the Waco area so living areas/ job opportunitie information will be greatly appreciated.

A really good friend of mine works for BNSF or DFW but he was saying they have been laying quite a few people off. Also when someone quits they aren't even filling the position unless they feel it is 100% required.
That being said I think it's going to be one hell of a tough time getting in right now.

I work for bnsf. I know we are one of the top employers of military. By the time you are ready in a couple years hopefully the industry will be back in full swing. Definitely look at bnsf and union pacific.

I'm a union pacific engineer. Things are very slow right now in the San Antonio area. We have a few ppl cut off and some that just work 2 days a week. Hopefully some of the oilfield will come back around. Then think long and hard about how much you want to be home or miss events. If I had to do it all over again I would prob go to maintenance side of it instead of engineer and conductor. Prob do more work on maintenence side of things but home alot more and set hours most of the time.
