Default New IHRA roll cage rule

For my follow Texan drag racers.

Direct from Mr. Baker(IHRA head tech offical) any t-top car running 11.49 1/4 mile or faster is goiing to have to have a 10 point roll cage to pass tech. This is at any IHRA track in the country. I have talked with Temple(TAD), Angleton, and Lone Star about the rule. They all will enforce the new rule in 05.

This rule kinda hurts the pocket book right now but it is all about safety. My Hot Rod will be going to Madman within the next week to have a 10 point put in. Any one need a LS6 intake and a ported TB? Need to pay for the cage ya know?

All i know is this is going to get alot of people into trouble not out of it............. they want people to stop racing on the streets, but with new rules like this all they are going to do is increase it......... 10 point is thru the dash correct................ so with the new rule its a 10pt for 11.49 and faster but what about 11.50....... nothing?? or 6 point??

Oh that's incredibly gay. I don't think I've seen anyone fly out of a t-topped f-body and I haven't seen one running 10+ secs flip out of control on the track either. Pathetic.

Ive seen 10 points that dont go through the dash, they go around the dash but , they look like ! Decreases the amount of room you would have to get in your car also. Alot of people are going to go back to street racing which is not good because Ive seen some major accidents involving street racing & also "FATAL" ones too. Not saying you cant get hurt at a track BUT atleast Its just the racers going down the track and not someone turning from an offstreet into a street race ..

Yeah these new rules are not helping the street racing scene a lot. NHRA lowered there requirements from 11.99 to 11.49 for a rollbar (I think a 5 point). but it doesn't take much to get there so we'll see how it works out most street racers are spending there money on going faster not weighting down there car so it can be a bad thing and a good thing. Bad cause it will push those certain guys to go to the streets and good in that I am sure it is safer if an accident was to occur.

the NHRA rule for 11.49 cars are for cars that can run 11's stock.
For example. If you go 11's in an f-body, mustake, or GTO youll need a cage. If you go 11's in a car that can do it stock, porche, viper, Z06. Then you dont need one. Least thats what I was told when I asked about the rule at the HRP.

stangkilleer- Look again it does have some restrictions like it has to be N/A and on a street approved tire IE: DR, and ET streets. No nitrous. At least that is what they are enforcing at HRP right now.

SAR will be as lenient as ever.
Hell, I ran bottom 11's there at Spring Break Shootout and they said nothing about a cage. I've been there with friend's cars and seen 9's run without cages and no complaints from the officials.

That really sucks, I have a hard top car though. The 10 point rule is dumb as hell, there really isnt any more protection in a hard top car then in a T-top car. When I put in the head lines on my TA, alls it is just some thin fiber glass. You got those metal bars, but a locked in T-top should do the exact same thing. Its not like any one races with out their T-tops on any way. IHRA tracks are really relaxed though so I take this new rule with a grain of salt.

The difference is that glass will shatter and your hard top won't. In the case of a roll over your chance of being ejected from the vehicle greatly increace.
