help asap nedd stat. info
i am writing a contraverial paper on street racing. i am looking for the interesting statistical info we all hear about such as how more people were killed by cops or such than street racing (just an example). mainly things that show it is not as bad as it is cracked up to be compared to other problems that are over looked. i am mainly finding things bashing the subject but i know what i am looking for is out there but i can not find it.(i am not the best at searching) one thing is it needs to be reputable and not just wrote by some yay hoo. i am not trying to start a discussion here about the issue, just looking for info on the subject to write a paper.
Any help is apreciated
Thanks Ryan

Wow, sure to be controversial! For a school assignment?
Deaths in prison: http://inquest.gn.apc.org/stats_prison.html
Deaths in police custody: http://inquest.gn.apc.org/stats_police.html
Deaths from police shootings: http://inquest.gn.apc.org/stats_shootings.html
Harris County statistics: http://www.houstoncopwatch.org/resou...tatistics.html and http://www.civiliansdown.com/Statistics%20Page.htm
LA shooting of kid, just happened Feb 7: http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...%3Dktla-news-1
Some street racing statistics:

A 2003 case: http://www.courttv.com/trials/dragra...sings_ctv.html
Unfortunately the street racing statistics aren't as solid as the police-related-deaths ones... Some areas don't record whether deaths involved street racing or not, and of those that do, I think there is a big tendency for the cops to classify anything remotely resembling it as 'street racing' these days since it's been in the media so much, even if it actually was not racing at all. I've seen quite a few posts on this site about people getting trumped-up tickets for street racing when they weren't doing it, just happened to be seen accelerating, or two performance cars just happened to be seen next to each other on the road, etc.
Drunk driving causes about 40% of all traffic deaths iirc, too... many times more than street racing.

obesity is the second leading cause of death in the us behind heart disease. If I remember 430k from heart disease 410 from obesity

You will also have to specify in your paper what is the exact definition of "street racing". To me street racing isn't just 2 guys going at it on the freeway or soem random stoplight. The first thing that comes to mind for me is some lonely country road with anywhere from 5-30cars lining the sides of the road and a bunch of people milling about talking about cars and who their next race is going to be with or why they can't race because : (insert excuse here). It's got it's own sense of organization and is fairly orderly.
^^ That's what I classify as Street Racing.
Now add the imports or Sideshow ********
Change it to 40-100cars. People running around drinking, fighting, throwing beer bottles and waving guns. Cars doing donuts and burnouts next to parked cars and people and no cars faster than 13sec out of the 100. LOL
^^ That is what I call SideShow Races
Now, Police and non-racers will classify ANY type of racing not done at a track as street racing. Which is fine but statistically not very many people are killed or hurt at real street races and only slightly more at Sideshow crap (although cars can get banged up). It's the typical young kids who think it's cool to race down a residential area or weave through traffic at high speed that pose the real statistics IMO.
So IMO statistics are going to be tough to hammer out due to the difference in terminology.
