EDIT: Actually, can they really do anything to a car more than 25 years old? I mean, its emissions exempt so if it pollutes a "gross" amount can they do anything about it?

These stations have absolutely NOTHING to do with law enforcement. They are actually conducting research on traffic and pollution and they are from Texas A&M University.. They are the reason we now have traffic lights on some entrance ramps so before you guys start getting scared just know that you are not being "sniffed out" .

From an engineer with TXDOT. I asked him what the hell they were and that is the answer. I asked my brother in law who is an engineer and graduated from A&M and it was confirmed. I tell you this- you could drive through that thing with the biggest smoking P.O.S. and you will never get a ticket. People just like to assume crap.

Don't get me wrong, they do have sensors to detect vehicle pollution but they ARE NOT using it to bust people. It is strictly for research so everyone just relax.

What came with him. The whole research team? I highly doubt it. The cop probably checked for one because he can smell the exhaust and it probably is also very loud. Secondly, the "camera" measures your speed, how long it takes to get up to highway speed, and exhaust output to determine if it is helping the environment. It they were going after you they would have DPS troopers parked along the side of the road waiting.

Think what you want but at least you know what I know.
