From the TxDot website: http://www.dot.state.tx.us/mvd/enforcement/information.htm and
http://www.dot.state.tx.us/mvd/licensing/licensing.htm#independent.
I know in some other states if you sell more than 5 vehicles in a year, you are considered a dealer. The fines are pretty stiff if you get caught without a dealer license.

I think you have to be a dealer to go to some of these car auctions though. Has anyone been to the car auction over off West Rd close to Hwy 6? It looks like theyve usually got a TON of cars out there.

My dad and I co-own a dealership based in lewisville. (DFW area) You need
1. A Business location with office space. (Chairs, Desk, working Phone, Fileing Cabinet, etc, Sign out front with hours too)
2. A Lot that can hold 5 cars at a time minimum.
3. A $50,000 bond to CYA (if you screw someone) It costs between 1000-1500 a year depending on Your Credit.
4. The actual licence paperwork. (750-1500 depending on your size.)
They are strict as hell on paperwork, don't check the wrong box or you will do it ALL over again. They also check up on you all the time.....
By the way, Manheim Auctions sell approx 7500 cars a week in the DFW area.........

you have to have a carlot, office space etc? my friends neighbor has a dealiers license, doesnt have a car lot or anything, just buys them from the auctions, works on them, and sells them, no car lot or anything,
