Default Video editing software - MiniDV

We recently purchased a Sony MiniDV camcorder but the software that come with it sucks...imagine that

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I agree, except for the small fact that the Premier package probably costs more than they paid for the camera.

Well, I have tried using Vegas and Movieshaker but the video quality sucks. I am using the USB cable that came with the camera. I have USB 2.0 but it looks like I am going to have to buy Firewire.

Firewire is the only way to go. Can't push enough data through USB. I also reccommend Adobe. I learned most of a Adobe in about a week, its the other quarter thats taken me 2 years. I manage all video editing at Coppell High School. we shoot 5 angles a game. Send individualised DVD's to the player and then create highlight video's to watch on Thursday. If you got any questions on how to use it ask me. Our video never touches a tape now.

I actually shot a few movies with some people that went to Coppell. Using DVX 100's, XL1, XL2's, and even 16mm film.

I've been editing video since '82 ...

Adobe Premeire Pro is an excellent low end program (pro-sumer) for editing.
One can find full install copies of older version of Premeire on eBay for under $100

To ensure there are no dropped frames, you gotta have at least a 2 drive RAID of video rated drives.

However, Movie Maker for XP is a very nice, easy to learn and CHEAP package to do most any editing you might want to do.
