Default Need recommendations on where/who to intall car audio system & build custom enclosure

Well to make a long story short, the guy who was originally going to install my audio system isn't. So...I need recommendations on who to take it to. Would prefer to have someone on the south side of Houston to install it. Looking for someone who's very knowledged in this field of work and who's been doing it a long time, who does awesome and quality work, good on prices, etc. (the obvious) Here's a rundown:

2006 2500HD crew cab w/Bose system/6 in-dash CD player

Installing:

JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio 10W3V2 (2)
JL Audio 300/4
Focal 165V2
Focal 130CA
Alpine IVA-W200

Need a custom enclosure built as well.

Also, how many of you have dealt with Sam from Stereo FX? He does have really good prices, but I've only dealt with him over the phone. I've talk to him on quite a few occasions. I sure would hate for the prices to be "too good to be true." I'll probably end up going with him on the equipment because he has the best prices. Anyhow, let me know who or who you recommend on installing this system. Thanks.

Edited orginal post. Will also need a head unit installed and custom enclosure built. Thanks.

By the way, when I stated I preferred someone on the south side of Houston, that was just a preference, but isn't a must. Now I would like to keep it in the Houston area though.

why not just bust out the phone book, look for stereo shops in the area, and call them?

Its a common practice, been going on since 8-tracks were hyped.

Mike TexaSS, they were going to do it, but turns out they're not. That's why I'm looking for someone new.

Nine Ball, I was actually looking for an individual, but don't mind taking it to a shop. A phone book isn't going to help me figure out who's good, reputable, good on prices, etc. If I called each individual shop, of course they're going to tell me what I want to hear and convince me to take it to them. They're not gonna suggest so and so down the road. That's why I was asking here on the board.

installing car stereos or building custom enclosures isn't rocket science. Just about any shop can build you as cheap or fancy of an enclosure that you want. I used to do that stuff in high school, all it takes is the right tools. The tools aren't even that complicated, its not like building engines.

I have bought all my stereo stuff for the last 3 years from Sam. Its not too good to be true he has good prices just some of the stuff you dont get a warranty so be careful and ask also INSPECT ALL the stuff you buy. I bought two subs and one of them had a small hole in the cone that I didnt see before I was already home. 2 years later it still works though International Audio over on Center St in Deer Park does good work.

I guess you're right. I just get a little intimidated on stuff I've never done and don't even attempt to try it. Its just that all this equipment is expensive and I sure would hate to screw something up.

As far as the enclosure, I could build one no problem, but the design of it will be the challenge as there is a right and wrong way to build it to get the most out of the speaker. Its not a simple as building a square box, cutting 2 holes in it, and screwing down the subs.

As far as tools, I should have what I would need. I've got a Sears in my garage.

Well Sam did state that the equipment I'll be buying will come with warranty. So are you saying that this stuff isn't new, possibly refurbished, or defective products? I certainly don't want anything to be damaged in any way, refurbished, etc. as these products are expensive.

No some of the stuff he sells he isnt an authorized dealer and if you arent an authorized dealer then the stuff you sell isnt warrantyable(sp?) equipment. if he says it carries a warranty then its fine Im sure. He may have since become an dauthorized dealer IDK my last dealings iwht him was a little over a year ago.

So you're saying if you're not an authorized dealer, then JL Audio equipment can't be warrantied? I don't know if that's correct as I was gonna buy this equipment from a friend who buys from an authorized dealer and they said I'll be covered.

If you dont have a reciept from an authorized JL Audio dealer with the correcponding name on the warranty ticket then no you will not have a warranty. If the name on the ticket, name on the warranty card and was purchased from an authorized JL Audio dealer it will not be warrantied if they JL rep does things by the book.

He said I would have to bring whatever is defective to him and he has to go through the authorized dealer to get it warrrantied. In some cases it can be swapped out on the spot, and then on other it will have to be sent in to the manufacturer. That's what Sam told me.

Well if they will swap it out in person then thats cool let em deal with warraty issues then. JL is pretty finicky about warranty items moreso than other companies. It seems they have their ducks in a row.

stereo shops are one of the shadiest businesses around. Trust me ive gone through 3 grand and still never had a great sound system, its all gimmicks and lies (dont trust that warranty bullshit ). Thats when i decided to waiste my money on performance

I haven't gotten any quote from him on installation or building a custom enclosure, but his prices were good on the equipment. I plan to take a trip out there sometime this weekend to check his shop out and see some of the work they have done.

As of now, I'm still undecided what I'm going to do as far as subs go. I'm torn between a premade box (Subthump) or getting a custom enclosure and I don't know whether to go behind or under the seat. I don't want to run any lower than W3s for the subs.
