Default Bah - Just got pulled over!!!!

I went over to my buddy's house so we could head over to LRP this morning. As I am following him, I notice a Texas State Trooper is staying neck and neck with my buddy, and going faster then slower, faster then slower. He is rubber necking for a few minutes and then slows down gets behind us and flips his lights on. We turn into the parking lot and he gets out. With a smirk on my face, certain he was pulling over my buddy, I say

"So, are you pulling me over or him?"

"I wished it was both of you, but I'm pulling you over today" he said with an arrogance about him. He mentioned I had no license plate. I told him I just got the car a week or so ago from a used car dealership and they told me to put it in the front window so it wouldn't get wet. "Too bad", he mentioned. "It is a violation. How can I see the plate?" He then tells me to pop open the hood. "Interesting ... you don't have any catalytic converters here either!" He said that the dealership could get in trouble for selling me a car that isn't legal. He also asked how it was that they could get it inspected while being illegal since it was a federal offense to do so.

Oh ... but that's not it!!! Keep reading.

He then goes over to my buddy's Cobra and tells him to pop the hood too! "What for?" he asked "are you pulling over me or him??" The state trooper said "I pulled him over, but you voluntarily stopped as well. Upon doing so, I noticed you didn't have any tail pipes. It looks like you don't have any cats too so you are getting a citation as well."

What a FUN, FUN Saturday morning this turned out to be! Instead of running at the track for the first time, I had to get a ticket and get a buddy in trouble too.

What a tool.
I on the other hand was lucky this morning. I passed a sheriff doing 85 on Hardy toll road. He had his hands on his radar on the dash....I thought I was busted for sure but he must have been setting it up or having trouble with it because he didnt come after me.
Good luck with the tickets...that sucks.

I've been driving without a front license plate for about 2 years now. I got pulled over for a speeding ticket and the cop didnt say one word about my plate. I didn't even have it in the car

I've been ticketed for the front plate. Get pulled over for it all the time. I refuse to put one on because I'm a stubborn ******* and I think it completely ruins the look of the car.

Ummm I dont think there are any laws in TX that support an officer demanding that you "pop the hood" for a roadside inspection. Any of our LS1 Officers can help us out on that? Dont you have to have probable cause to search a vehicle? Saying "I pulled him over, but you voluntarily stopped as well. Upon doing so, I noticed you didn't have any tail pipes. It looks like you don't have any cats too so you are getting a citation as well." sounds alot like saying... "hey your a black guy so you must have drugs and a gun." I think it would be hard pressed for a officer to establish probable cause on that...

I agree. He needed a warrant as far as I see it. I'm no expert on the law, nor do I claim to be, but it just seems wrong otherwise.

maybe, but if he asked him to open the hood and he didnt refuse, then the cops is ok. had he refused then he would have had to get a warrant. its like when cops ask if they can come on ur house, if they find something in open space, they can bust u for it

Sorry guys...no warrant needed. An officer can request you show him items, and or demonstrate the workings of items on your vehicle.

If you fail to comply w/ the request, you can be cited...or arrested for fail to obey directions of a peace officer, along with receiving the ticky's for the equip vio's.

Now....for the the ticket issues to the original poster...

That was GAY. Sounds like he had a bad morning and decided to take it out on ya'll. And that's why I like not being out on the highways anymore....I hate writing tickets.

Well there you go. I didn't know that. Good to know so I don't get arrested in the future.

So tell us, Kev; what's the best way to try to get out of a ticket? I've always wanted a police officer's advice on that matter.

Does your car not have cats? You might be able to raise hell at the dealership you just bought it from and have them pay for the ticket.
