Default Slater's Mustangs or Slater's Auto works on 1960

Anybody ever used Slater's Mustangs or Slater's Auto works on 1960 in Astociacita? I have a problem breaking tail shafts and after spend over $3000 to fix it I have given up with the trans shop... SO I need this thing fixed right the first time.. I have not drove my car more then 30 miles before it breaks in the last 3 months.. And when I say break..I mean breaks at where the at the tail shaft housing where it bolts up to the trans.. I break it clean...ALL 6 BOLTS.. After 4 housing..its getting too expensive to just throw any more money at it... Just wandering anybody's dealt with them with there f body before. |I have taken my car there once before with good luck... but again... I need this to be the only time I take it there... Any other suggests will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Josh

I think Slater calls his new shop Slater's Auto Works. I think he changed the name when he moved his shop to 1960 about 5 or 6 years ago. I use to always take my mustang to Slater's old shop, but ever since he moved to the new shop his prices have gone way up. He's too expensive for me now. He always did good work on my car though.

I've been to his shop several times and he's done some tuning on my car. Good shop IMO.

Ive never had a good experience over there! Had my GT over there along time ago to install a dss 306 with afr heads /performer 2 intake. Also install tremec 3550. Well I drove the car halfway home and it started making a loud valvetrain noise. A rocker arm worked its way off by the time i got to the house. Then slaters did not want to come pick the car up. I had to argue with them to have them come pick it up and fix it! Anyways i suppose some one has to have had the bad experience!

Well, Like I said..I have been there once..and it was for a rear end seal.. other than that..I really don't know about anything they do... But what I don't want to happen it the same thing that has happen to the trans shop that I took it too.. I took it there end of sept.. Long story short.. After rebuilding a trans with 60 k on it and didn't need it...4 tail housing later and a lot of other things changed out that didn't need to be..they let the car sit for 2 weeks right before Christmas when I told them I needed the car for the Holidays..and they told me...when I called them.."We just aint going to work on it anymore because we are not EXPERTS".. The sad part is the org. problem that I took it therefor is still there.. So I have thrown $3000 at a problem that still there and I cant drive for more than 30 miles or so before the tail shaft spins the bearing that holds the drive shaft in.. So at all cost I don't really care who fixes it, It just needs to be done right the first time..NO MORE GUESSING

We took my wife's 2000 Mustang GT to them for the full Bassani headers, x-pipe, and catback install. If the headers weren't such a bitch to do on a Mustang, I would have done myself. Anyway, they fucked it up! The motor needs to be lifted to get the headers in and they jacked it up on the oil pan!!!!! We come to pick the car up and they were just finishing the install and hadn't test fired it yet. Get it down from the lift, go to fire it up, and blam-blam-blam-blam......Crank's hitting the oil pan!! Idiots. Well, they just were going to pound out the pan, but my wife bitched that they were going to install a new oil pan. They did.

Worst part, is that they admitted that they've done that before, that the clearance on a 4.6 is real tight!! So why ever do it again?? Also, the x-pipe hung too low and I had to adjust as it would scrap on the slightest speed bump.

I vote no on Slaters.

slaters is eh.. they 'fixed' my AC one time... then it stopped working 3 days later and he wouldn't do **** about it.

He fills my nitrous and sometimes he packs a good amount of air in there.

I would go somewhere else if i could.

If you are running a stock steel driveshaft (like for a 2.73 car) those don't seem to do well in performance situations, might be something to do with high rpm balance. I broke a tailshaft with one, and found others who had too.

OK Today I called Slater himself, Just to talk about my problems. To make a long story short, he told me that he didn't feel comfortable working on the car because he didn't know the car like he felt he should and recommended someone else which I called and talk to and I think I'm on the right track now. Bottom line is my personal opinion is that Slater's shop is ok and everyone that would pass on business because they felt that someone else could do a better job is ok. Just though I would let everyone know that and I will probably use them in the future if there is something simple I need done. I am going to post pics of my tail shaft housing later and let everyone see what the problem has been. Thanks Josh
