H-Town peeps
Not sure how to look for this online but does anyone know of any H-Town based oil rig companies?
I am about to graduate (summer) with my aircraft maintenace degree and know there are companies down in the Gulf area that pay good money for people to work on their choppers (inland, not out at sea).
Wanting to end up in H-town at some point. Was born at Sheppard AFB.

I work offshore and don't know of any companies that own thier own choppers besides Chevron. The companies that are most used on the Gulf coast are, Petrolium Helicopters Inc (PHI), ERA Helicopters, Air logistics, Evergreen helicopters. They are all land based, you wouldn't have to go offshore. I think that most of these companies work a schedule like we do, 14 on/14 off. Hope this helps.

I don't know which company it is, but I think there is one based in Pearland, Tx (suburb of Houston) off hwy 35 close to the high school. There are several helicopters that are based there and I think its for offshore transportation to the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe someone could chime in with verification and more info........

What's wrong with Port Fourchon/Grand Isle or Venice? The fishing is awesome down there, probably best in the country. I wouldn't want to live there though.

Make sure you do your reasearch on this. I am not trying to persuade you in any way but, Petrolium Helicopters Inc is a wierd company. Half of it is union and the other half is not. The half that is union was recently relieved of their duties for failing to come to work because they were on STRIKE. ******* ******** made me stay on the rig for 3 extra days because of the bullshit that they pulled. We still fly with them when they arn't breaking down. Hope you are a good mechanic, cause my life is in your hands. What ever you decide, good luck in your career and we welcome you to the Houston area.

Yeah its not something I am going to jump into.
Every time I work on a plane/helo I think as if I will be the one flying on it and its my life.
Thats what I don't like about unions, the strikes. BUT the union at UPS pretty much saved my job when I was with them throwing boxes..... both sides of the fence have cons.
My brother did construction for a while and they were not union and lots of guys with him got hurt. A friend of ours had to use a drill with no kick back guard and ended up breaking a bunch of bones in his face.
