Default Racegas gone bad?

About how long should a jug of race gas last, sealed in a 5 gal reservoir, in teh garage?

I bought some about a month or more ago but been so damn busy that I haven't used it yet.

Ive had some go bad in the damn gas tank while my car was down before and it sputtered and **** for a while.... went bad in about 6 weeks.

This is unleaded 109 btw .....

Tiago,

I'd give a few phone calls to VP, Sunoco, and whoever else you can think of. I'd make the final call after talking to each of them. I'd be curious to know if their processing/refining methods dictate the length of fuel "life."

Tiago,

Ours lasted in the jug about 2-3 months. As long as it is sealed you should be just fine.

Thanks,
Amber

I have no idea, but you also have to wonder how long the previous fuel was stored before it went bad. Though it only lasted 6 weeks in your tank, it may have been sitting for a year or more before you even got it. I think the stuff you recently bought was fresh from VP.

Tiago, as long as it was in a dark jug and out of the sunlight it will last for a couple months. A clear or light colored jug that sits in the sunlight will go bad within a couple days.

That's basically what I learned. I beleive it will cause the hydrocarbons to evaporate in a light colored container in direct sunlight. I also read where the octane levels actually decrease the longer it sits in a plastic container as compared to a metal container. This might be in conjunction w/the whole light colored/direct sunlight theory for that statement.

FWIW, gas loses octane at a rate of around 1 point per week if left in a sealed plastic container. It loses 1 point per month in a sealed metal container. Those are of course approximates and in nominal conditions.

Shake the can and pour some in a glass or plastic cup. If you see small black particles floating in it, it is bad. That is what it does when it breaks down.

Just depends where you keep it Tiago, weve had our clear jugs out of the light filled with gas that sat for a while and was fine, like stated above its just how its kept. You can always swing by and pick up some more or C16

Bonfire time!

Actually I poured some in a cup as requested by a customer when I worked for a shop and it came out like Tony described. The whole thing of VP C-16 was garbage. We just kept it and used it to kill the ant problems we had at the time. Works really good for that!

Edit: That crap is $10.00 a gallon in DFW. What is it down there?

Thanks for the tip Tony I'll give it a try.
