Default I strongly recommend totalling your car...

Well the car got claimed as a total loss, and the hood went with it (for those of you that know it) after all the adjustments for the hood, rims, and tires and low mileage and a bit of negotiating I got only got 24300 AFTER the $500 deductable it was way more than I couldve asked for and I'm really happy with the insurance company for the pay off number. It looks like I wont be in the scene anymore for a while but I'll probably stop by the meets sometimes for old times sake and still be on Tech and SSU and here in a couple of years I'll probably buy myself a toy

For that kind of money, buy another one and have cash left over. Then you don't have to leave the scene.
Congrats on the "lottery win"

Let's not advocate insurance fraud...it costs us all in the long run.

Exactly....good point....but I'll elaborate...

For the people that do want the "Big Payout", understand what Insurance Companies are in business for....to MAKE money, not by paying it out.

So they gave you nearly $24k for your vehicle. That means that the insurance company must raise everybody ELSE'S rates to "recoup their losses" from your vehicle.

Think of it that way!

I may not know the whole story, but how would this be considered fraud?

Did he misrepresent something? Just because the insurance company gave him that much it doesn't mean it's fraud.

Insurance companies usually don't give people enough to compensate for their total loss, so i don't believe a few people coming out pretty good every now and then has a dramatic effect on our rates.

I think the houses bought by the insurance companies for their agents has more of an effect on our rates.

I'm sure they didn't start offering him that much money. It usually takes a lot of work negotiating with adjusters to actually get a decent payout for a totalled or stolen vehicle.

I don't advocate insurance fraud either. That is a lot more than I expected they would have paid.

Yeah, I was referring to the guy who commented on keying his car to get a new paint job.

well they put the value of the car at around 22.5 (which is what I payed for it two years ago when it had 17K miles) and I gave them the recepts for about 5K in the hood, rims and tires and they only gave me about a 1/5th of that amount because they called them "preference items". I was still happy with the pay off, they said there was around 16K worth of damage from what I did, mostly on the underside

So which insurance company do you roll with? I want to know who to blame. LOL Did you have the tires/rims "extras" covered? I don't know that my company would take that into account or care for that matter.

You need to have it appraised by a professional custom/antique car appraiser (usually doesn't cost that much). I believe they'll basically say it's worth what you think it is worth. Then take that appraisal by your ins. co. and let them know it's actual value.

There might be a possibility of your premiums going up a little, imo it's well worth it

i had $17k in receipts on my mustang when it was stolen. i learned all of this info ^^ the hard way.
