Default 95 5.7 in a 99??

I have a couple questions. I have a 99 Cadilac Escalade that has a 5.7 vortech in it. I also have a spare motor laying around that was pulled from a 95 GMC Yukon. It is not a vortech though. Will I be able to just swap intakes and slap this 95 motor in the 99? I know the accessories will have to be swapped but pretty sure all those will bolt up correct. Just not sure if the motor itself is the same or not. I was thinking I was going to have to wap the heads also but was told there is no reason to do so. The bad thing is I can not use the heads off the 99 motor, they are bad. Car has been sitting a little over 2 years and not in good health at all.

Any and all help is welcome,
Thanks
Mike

If you want everything to bolt up the way it's supposed to then I know you'll at least need to swap heads. The intake manifold bolt pattern is different for the non-Vortec heads, and they started doing that in '96. There's more of a difference than just the heads, though I don't know exactly what. Most stroker kits are designated for '95 and prior, but not for '96-'99 - I don't know if it's because of block relief or perhaps it's sensor location. Yes you're in the wrong forum, but it happens. There are guys in here too that used to drive a Yukon.

the 96 and up trucks utilized reverse flow cooling and there were a few other key things that are different. basically, no they wont interchange without alot of modifications.

The heads will interchange easily and there are virtually no external differences in the engines, LT1s were the only engines to use reverse flow cooling. The bolt patterns are the same for the heads(middle intake bolts are vertical) but it is highly recommended to not use non-L31 vortec intake with a L31 vortec head. Put everything off of the 99 motor onto the 95 motors short block and you will be fine and pretty much have the same setup as before. Good luck.

LT1 is not the only engine to utilize reverse flow. Second off if this motor is from a 99 escalade it should be of the LS type. Therefore your 95 5.7 will not bolt up. IF said motors are both GEN "1" SBC type still no they will not bolt up do to one is vortec one it not. Meaning the intakes have a different bolt pattern.

99 escalade came with a 5.7 old style not a 5.3. the yukons, suburbans, escalades, and tahoes came with the old engines untill 2000. both shortblocks are the same. i had a 93 gmc sierra and the 5.7 shortblock was identical to the 96 up vortecs.

What other sbc uses reverse flow besides LT1/LT4? Also how was the meet Saturday? My tranny took a ****, ACE is building me a new one this week sometime so I should make it out next Saturday. I really wanna see/do some good racing but the cops keep shutting us down bad, but you know this of-course.
