Default Refinery In Big Spring blew up

Wow, I used to drive by this refinery on I20 all the time. Apparently it had some problems today and I've heard some of my friends/family that live in Midland (40-50 miles way) saying they felt the blast!

I just saw that. I work at a refinery and hope that never happens out here.

Yes so far everyone is accounted for and only 1 injury which is very surprising. I'm sure there will be problems ahead as I got a call telling me about a friends grandparents who live close. All of the windows in their house were blown out and all the pictures knocked off the wall.

I've called my friends in Midland and apparently the blast could be felt in the homes there and you can see the cloud!

I just moved from Big Spring. I called all my family and they all are fine my dad said the blast shook his house like crazy for around 8 seconds and the power went out. He talked to his insurance company and they said all the houses in town are going to have to be checked for slab damage!!

I'm in Midland, its pretty crazy.. at work we've had alot of people saying how they felt the blast and we are about 45 miles from Big Spring..

I'm glad everyone is going to be alright.. thank God no one died

Looks like unfortunately for us gas prices are going to skyrocket here.. that refinery supplied all the gas for our entire area.. Good thing I filled up the Vette earlier..

My brother works in midland and he said it shook their office pretty good. Their local board has some pretty wild pics. www.anythingcars.com in their general chat area.

Wow. Those are some amazing pics.

Prayers out for all involved.

In one pic there is a firehose spraying onto a tower of some sort... I wonder if it is a manned hose?

My business partners' wife works for Alon... the company that operates that facility.

He told me she was called in to the office and has been scrambling all day to redirect pipeline flow and look for replacement product.

I told him... "Sucks to be her today." He told me " Yeah, but that's why she get's the big bucks!"

The construction company I work for has the contract for that plant. Looks like I will get to make a trip out there for the rebuild.
