There are lots more information on the following sites:

http://transamcountry.com/community/index.php

http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/

1981 Trans Am's are not highly desireable. However, there are some exceptions. The Daytona 500 Pace car edition had some unique, 1981 only items, including Recaro seats.

But, horsepower is going to be low. Turbo 301's were rated at 210 horse, but I believe that's being quite generous. You can build them for some power, but really not worth the effort. Also, only automatics were available with the 301 Turbo. But, if it's in good condition, you have a solid platform for a built 400 or 455.

Good luck.

Their a good value, 2nd gen TAs have sky rocketed in Value over the last few years, all 2nd gen models have kinda risen with that tide. But the less desirable cars still prove to be good finds for all out builds since their original drive trains aren't desirable.

It has some rust in the quarters, hood and trunk area. Nothing real bad. Everything is original and the car runs and drives.
57,000 original miles

Check the rear leaf spring front brackets to see if the surrounding area is solid. This is a very common area for rust/rot and the spring will pop through the floor. Texas Trans Ams up near Dallas is a good source for parts and rust-free panels. If you do buy it, let me know as I have a 1980 Trans Am parts car that you can check out for needed parts.

Weren't those the most underpowered t/a's? Thats why a turbo was added.... I was going to buy one locally for $600 dollars, by the time I went to see it car was already sold. It was a 1980 Formula, it had a the ram air hood.

^Exactly. They will be worth money one day. But as for power....lacking heavily. The 301 was a POS shortlived turd in itself.

It is the car in my signature. I bought another 1980 that was rust-free and have parked my other one. The rust isn't terrible, but opinions can vary how bad it is. Your welcome to come take a look at it. However, I'm taking the 4-wheel brake rear-end. The car is an original WS6. Black, with the red custom cloth interior, no t-tops, has power windows and rear defroster. 301 4-barrel with shaker hood. 8 inch snowflake rims, but I'm keeping those, too.

Let me know if you're interested in checking it out.
