alternative wleding paper

what would be a cheaper alternative to keep splatter off you paint then the 3m spark proof paper?

Where are you going to weld I have used aluminum foil to cover stuff like wires you can wrap it up easley and not have to worry with the heat or sparks. I would think it would work great for paint. prolly want to test it first . i have used it for years to cover wires and has always did a good job.

sounds like a good idea. I am welding in the drain wells on a t-top conversion so I risk getting splatter all over the car.

You save any of the metal a buddy of mine is wanting to chang his over but the parts are hard to find Do you have all the stuff you need , I have all my stuff left. also a wet towel will help away from where you are welding like on a flat surface where sparks can bounce one thing you could look at is to tig it no sparks at all.

when i weld under the car near the fuel/brake lines and such, i take an old bath towel, soak it to where its dripping then ring it out and drape it over what i want protected. that way the wetness kills the splatter upon contact. the towel never has pinholes in it afterward.

have someone TIG it if its in a critical area for spatter.
welding blankets, and the 3m paper are your friend.
tin foil works pretty decent too.

I dont know if i'd use tin foil... weld berries will fly right through that. If you have some leather that works really good. Wet towels are kinda light and airy, a heavier cloth works better like wet jeans.
