If you don't want to spend anynore than that:

I wouldn't use it on aluminum. I would still use gas 75/25 mix rather than the fluxcore wire. Hope it doesn't come shipped to you like the picture shows. That isn't exactly good for the liner but maybe the el cheapos don't have a liner.

I suggest the Northern Industrial welders from from Northern Tool. They are very good welders, especially for the money.

you will not be very happy with a welder under 200 new...

the cheapest I'd go is: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...2925_200342925

The 135amp model is a very good welder for the money, so I'd bet the 125 is good too.

Check Home Depot. I got a discontinued Lincoln 110v welder that can use gas for $300 (marked $355), regular $475.

I bought a cheapo Harbor Freight flux-core welder and it does exhaust just fine, as long as you have a good grinder and you don't care what it looks like that is.

thats not entirely true. I have been a welder for about 4 years and you can make the welds look goof with a HF welder it just takes more skill. I would also say its not the best to learn on bc of it requiring more skill to produce nice welds. still very doable though.

Man, I sell those welders all day long (Manager at the HF in Konxville). I hardly ever see one come back, and if I do it looks like they just abused the ever living crap out of it. There are some decent things in there, and if I'm not mistaken most of the parts (like tips, cutting torches, regulators, etc) will interchange with a Lincoln. Part of HFT's price comes from little to no R&D... "reverse engineering" at its best

Look for coupons, or sign up on their website mailing list. Lately I've been selling the cheap "easy 100" for like $89. The duty cycle is what isnt that great on the HFT stuff. Something like 20% (2 minutes for every 10 minute period). Terrible for industrial use, great for first timer use.

With HF, if you buy their waranty then they don't care what it looks like or how many pieces its in when you bring it back.

Also, there's a little tig/arc inverter welder i've had my eyes on that will go for about $199 on sale. THAT would be nasty.

I got a Lincoln cuz it was a smokin deal, its 110v, will weld 5/16, and has everything but the bottle.
