Default Best impact wrench

My Chicago Pnuematic 734 just won't hit hard any more. I took it apart and installed new seals, rings, vanes, etc., cleaned it all out, complete waste of time. It had been oiled before each use and really did not have a hard or long life imo (shade tree mechanic type use for 7 years or so) .

Anyway, I'm not getting another CP. I want a hard hitting LONG LASTING wrench. What's good, Ingersoll Rand? I've got a couple of their air wrenches that have been good so far. What about Sioux? Others? Max I want to spend is about $200 or so but I'll spend more if it gets me one that will last a lifetime, that's what I want. Also, I like snap ring socket retention over the pin type.

Well sometimes fate just steps in.... I picked up a new Sioux 4035C off ebay for $99.95 At that price I just could resist. I like their drills, hopefully this is as good.

Ingersoll 244A is a great impact but a little heavy. They go a little over $150 most places.

If you want a good, light impact the IR 2131 is nice, and they have a QT version that is very quiet. I've had mine for over a year with daily shop abuse and it's holding out great. For a few dollars more the 2135Ti is a little lighter and VERY powerful. They go around $209-$250. I would have got one of those but they came out 2 weeks after I got my 2131QT

I have the Ingersoll Rand 1/2in. Titanium as well and its a freakin BEAST of an impact gun as far as power goes. It will take anything you throw at it. I picked mine up for $219 off the net with free shipping. And it only weighs 3.95lbs, I absolutely love it. If your looking for a new impact this is the one to get man.

I have the IR compiste case... cant remember the model number at the moment but I love that gun it has a muffler and it will brak anything loose!!

it's lite, tough and durable as hell!!

spend the money on air tools you will be glad you did!!

aside from that gun all my air tools are snap on!! the only way to fly.....

on a side note the snap on 3/8 in impact is your best friend !!! strong as an ox.... i use the gun on everything!!(almost)

Thanks for the input on the 2135Ti

Makes me even more mad that I didn't wait two weeks after I got my 2131QT. The local mechanic store I got it from now sells the Ti's for the same price as the 2131QT, $209.

The whole reason I got the 2131 was comfort. I was having a problem with my elbow and the heavy *** metal guns were killing me after one or two wheels. The Ti would have been the perfect choice for me. I was a bit skeptical about the torque claims though. Glad to hear they're true May have to actually buy one in the near future. As a matter of fact, they just came out with a 3/8 version that has an *** load of torque. Even lighter and more than enough to change wheels and most other big stuff with.

Here's a tip: use a super short 1/2" extention (one of the Snap On or similar super mini's) on the end of the gun. Keeps the ring from wearing out and makes socket changes a lot faster. Does reduce torque a little but it can always be pulled off, although I can't remember the last time I did.

So, I can get a craftsman impact for $30, or the bad *** one from above for $250.

What am I going to notice as the difference, besides maybe the build quality. Is one going to "perform" better than the other straight out of the box? Is there going to be some bolt that one can break loose, but the other one cant? I'm new to air tools....

Quick update on my situation.....turns out there was nothing wrong with my Chicago Pneumatic.....my inline water filter/oiler took a dump and while it would show a full 90 pounds on the guage, as soon as you put a load on it, it would drop to 20 pounds!...so, disconnected that, put the hose on the compressor, and everythings good now.

Regarding the Sioux, it's a hard hitting unit, feels good in your hand, but it's way too heavy for anybody that uses an impact daily....plenty fine for joe shadetree like me.

The diffrence will be in the power and weight of the gun (also durability if its a no name brand) . Also how many times the gun will have to hammer to brake something loose. You may come across bolts where you need all 550+ft lbs of torque to break it loose, a gun rated to 220 may seem like plenty but in reality its not. My ir has no problem snapping bolts if thats what im out to do, and I havent had one take more then 2-3 impacts (rusted 1 1/8 nut on a radius arm. Of corse if you just want it to play with once and a while, then weight shouldnt be a concern (holding a 10lb gun all day starts to hurt) and if all you are using it for is taking off a tire here and there, maybe a couple bolts here and there then you may not need a 250$ gun (although they are great) I would at minimum get a low end Ir it will last 100 times longer then the k mart specials. just my .02

I just ordered the 2135Ti ,, seems like one hell of a tool that I probably don't need but screw it. Hopefully it lives up to all the praise you guys have given it.

You can add another satified IR user here to. We use the new Ti one and also there 3/8 is kick *** too. It would run rings around the Snap=on stuff. It was kinda bad that I bitched that Snap-ons newest composite gun didnt take every thing off. Cranked up the IR and Off it came. I've heard all the excusess from my tool guy. Not enough air, to small fittings, not oiled, and well you know each gun is different. Then one day a new IR TI showed up on the truck and into my tool box it went. POS snap-on was sold to someone else latter that week. John

I bought the 2131a when it first came out in '95 and use it every day at work since. The guys that bought the 2135ti still come over to borrow my gun if a nut is stuck. Therefore dont worry about the 2131qt it will be a good gun for you. gerase the hammers with CV grease and use a fully synthetic motor oil in the motor.. it won't let you down. The only problem is the buttons wear out ($5) and finaly the retainer portion of anvil broke off($53) so I am going to buy a 2131qt while they are still avalable.
