for 918 springs i just used the star wheel tool which was 35 bucks. used top dead center to keep valves up and it was simple and fast.

Try crane's new one. A member of my local car club bought one and he liked it very well. Vinci --> has it for $120, a little pricey but seems to be the safest and quickest b/c it does 2 at time.

Default LSM Spring Compressor

The best LS1 spring compressor out there is the one by LSM. You can get it at Scoggin Dickey. It's around $200 but worth every penny. I heard it was developed with Mallett to use on the C5's.
